The Hubbard High School teaching and administrative staff has added a few new rookies to their roster this season. These additions to the lineup are looking good, with stats to match. Here’s a look at the new starters:

Mr.T.J. Koniowsky: Assistant Principal

Attended: McDonald High School, Ashland University

Past Teaching: Austintown Fitch High School: Science Teacher

Welcome Assistant Principal Mr. T. J. Koniowsky! Mr Koniowsky is the proud father of two sons, has a wife named Lisa who works as a Physical Therapist, and is owner of a silver lab named Thor, as well as a 135-gallon fish tank. In his interview, Mr. Koniowsky stated that he had always hoped to someday work in educational administration, but started college with an intention to go into pre-med.

He played football and competed in track at Ashland, and was, in fact, a four-time All-American in Track and Field. Even today that athleticism remains; he says his favorite activity outside of school is working out and golfing. In referencing physical activity, Mr. Koniowsky remarked that “people often view me as a jock; however, there is much more to me than that.” Regardless of first impressions, he was very pleased with the Hubbard community’s support for sports, football in particular. Mr. Koniowsky loves the fact that the school comes together every Friday night to support the team. While he says that this job as Assistant Principal at Hubbard High School was unexpected, he’s glad to have the opportunity, hopes to make a difference, and he really enjoys the position.

Mrs. Amy Gasser: Biology

Attended: Marlington High School, Mount Union College

Past Teaching: Ten years at Jefferson High School: Biology

Welcome Biology teacher Mrs. Amy Gasser! Mrs. Gasser has two little girls: Gabby, who was adopted from Guatemala; and Lauren, who is her biological daughter. Both girls get along and both love to dance.

Mrs. Gasser has taught at four different school districts, with Jefferson being the longest tenure prior to her coming to Hubbard. She says that she enjoys being able to teach at both the high school and middle school because she finds the difference refreshing. A cheerleader in high school, Mrs. Gasser now boasts an impressive track resume, with countless half marathons and one full marathon under her belt. A “fun” and interesting fact about Mrs. Gasser is that she and a group of students wore pink on every Wednesday for four years in ode to the movie “Mean Girls”.

Ms. Suzanne Joseph: Science

High School: Illinois

College: Augustana College, Slippery Rock: Sciences

Welcome Science instructor Ms. Suzanne Joseph! Ms. Joseph loves spending time with her fiancé and her two sons Ray, 15; Kobe, 14, as well as the family’s two Great Danes. Both of her boys are good athletes in the Sharpsville school system. Ms. Joseph has an impressive athletic background as a volleyball player, track runner, All American Basketball player, and also boasts a competitive horseback riding past. She is still riding, however, and currently competes at a local, national, and international level in Team Penning and Ranch Sorting with the USTPA.

Ms. Joseph originally wanted to be a vet, but hated that career choice once she got into it in college, so she chose instead a teaching career, which she loves. Ms. Joseph taught biology, chemistry and physics for four years in Southington, Ohio and is currently a TVLA instructor with TCESC. Some “fun” facts about Ms. Joseph are that she loves the sun, grew up on a farm, and owns two horses of her own.

Ms. Jessie Canter: Math

Attended: Brookfield High School, Youngstown State University

Past Teaching: Youngstown State University: Upper-Level Math

Welcome Math instructor Ms. Jessie Jones- Canter! Ms. Canter has two twin sons, Daniel and Dillon, in ninth grade, and one younger son, Gabriel, in eighth grade. All attend Mathews High School.

Originally she wanted to be a nurse or a physical therapist, but after helping as an aid at a preschool, she realized that teaching was the appropriate career choice for her. She started teaching in a middle school before learning that she preferred older students. Her favorite aspect on moving from teaching college to high school is the assigned seating, because it’s so much easier to remember her students’ names! She enjoys teaching at Hubbard and stated that “This is where I belong right now.” Some “fun” facts about Ms. Canter are that she loves the Packers, enjoys science fiction books, and her favorite holiday is Th
