Bevor es mit Fashion-Week-Gedöns und Manhattan-Glamour weiter geht, wollte ich euch ein paar Geheimtipps ans Herz legen. Vom typischen Big Apple habt ihr nämlich in letzter Zeit auf anderen Blogs bestimmt genug gelesen und gesehen. Da ich schon mehrmals in NYC war und wir auch Freunde in der Stadt haben (Jesse kommt ursprünglich aus New York), konnten wir auch mal andere Gegenden und Ecken erkunden! Vor einer Woche stand also Astoria und Long Island City in Queens auf dem Plan, natürlich für mich das erste Mal, aber auch der erste Besuch in Astoria und LIC für Jesse. Und ich sag euch, die Gegend ist das neue Brooklyn und total im Kommen! Rumgeführt haben uns unsere Freundin Beth und ihre Mitbewohnerin und beide leben schon seit sieben Jahren in Queens. Dementsprechend kennen sie sich aus, wissen, was alles so abgeht und kennen die neusten Lokale und Locations in der Gegend. Richtige Insider-Infos also

In addition to the super famous areas like Manhattan and Williamsburg, we also visited Long Island City and Astoria in Queens for the first time. And I tell you the area is up and coming and the new Brooklyn! A friend of ours, Beth and her roomate who have already lived there for 7 years showed us around, so they know all the insider tips! They knew all the cool places and locations and I wanted to share the 5 coolest spots we visited with you:

1. Brooklyn Grange
Los ging der Tag mit einem Besuch auf der größten Dachterrassen-Farm der Welt: Brooklyn Grange. Ja, sie heißt “Brooklyn”, aber hat ihren Sitz in Brooklyn UND Queens. Wie der Name schon sagt, wird ganz oben auf dem Dach Obst und Gemüse angebaut und es gibt sogar einen Bienenstock, für Honig aus Queens (den vor Ort natürlich auch verkauft wird)!!! Auf einem Fußballgroßen Feld wird alles in Bio-Qualität angebaut und jeden Samstag können alle die Farm besichtigen und natürlich die frische Ernte erwerben. Dazu gibt es auch regelmäßig Events wie Workshops und Yoga auf der Farm! Für mehr Infos: Brooklyngrangefarm.com Wenn man mit dem Taxi kommt, wundert man sich erst über die Gegend, nichts besonderes drum herum. Durch das Café Coffeed hindurch und dann den Aufzug hoch stehen Besucher dann aber mittendrin im Grünen mit einer atemberaubenden und auch außergewöhnlichen Aussicht auf Manhattan. PS: Schon vor meinem Besuch habe ich der Farm auf Instagram gefolgt und war dann noch begeisterter oben zu stehen und plötzlich zu merken, wo ich war (war eine Überraschung von ner Freundin).
1. Brooklyn Grange
Our day started with a trip to the world’s biggest rooftop farm: Brooklyn Grange. Even though it’s name is “Brooklyn”, it has a farm in both Brooklyn and one in Queens. Everything is grown organic and they even have a beehive for honey from Queens! Every Saturday the farm is open for public to visit and, of course, you can buy their products as well. You just walk through the Coffeed café, go up the elevator and enjoy an amazing view and the super cool farm. They also offer lots of events and workshops. More information: Brooklyngrangefarm.com. When you step out of the cab or walk there it is not a particularly cool area but once up the elevator you are in a different world! Fun fact: I followed Brooklyn Grange on instagram for a while and was therefore super excited when I realized where I was going (I didn’t plan on going there, our friend planned out everything for us!)
2. Street Art
Queens ist noch voller von Streetart als Brooklyn, finde ich, oder besser gesagt, irgendwie ist die Streetart dort roher und noch nicht so kommerzialisiert oder schon auf Instagram zehntausendfach bekannt. Es gibt echt viele Neuentdeckungen und mit Streetart meine ich nicht einfach Tags, die finde ich boring. Sondern richtig coole Kunstwerke. Wir waren am Welling Court Mural Project, das ist Wellington Court Ecke 30th Avenue, und an richtig vielen Wänden waren tolle Graffitis! Wir sind mit dem Auto hingefahren, aber mit Bus und Ubahn ist die Ecke auch prima zu erreichen! Die Bilder machen hoffentlich Lust auf einen Besuch
2. Street art
Queens offers even more street art than Brooklyn in my opinion. Or maybe the street art ist just more raw in Queens, less commercialized and less seen on Instagram & Co. We were at theWelling Court Mural Project, that is located at Wellington Court/ 30th Avenue and on many walls was really really cool graffiti. The walls were not just covered in tags but really cool projects, murals and real pieces of art. We went there by car but it is not very complicated to get there with public transportation, or if in doubt take a cab from the subway! I hope the pics make you want to visit it
3. Lockwood Interior & Style
OMG, wer auf Interior steht, muss dort hin! Ich hätte mich dort tot shoppen können. So viel toller, aber auch nützlicher Nippes, Kerzen, Küchentücher, unglaublich schöne Kalender, Deko, alles was mein Design-Herz begehrt! Am Ende habe ich fast nur Geschenke (sehr viele davon aber) und eine Kupfer-Lichterkette für mich gekauft. Viele Produkte sind lokal hergestellt oder mit Liebe gemacht. Im Onlineshop könnte ihr euch ein sehr gutes Bild von den Produkten machen. Gleich nebenan gibt es dann auch einen Lockwood-Styleshop mit Kleidung und Accessoires, in dem ich unzählige Matt & Nat Taschen entdeckt habe (habe aber leider nicht zugeschlagen und ärgere mich immer noch darüber!!!). 3. Lockwood Interior & Style
OMG, anyone who loves anything interior has to go visit this store! I could have bought everything in the store! They have so many cute items such as super cute candles, kitchen cloths, calendars, decoration, everything my little designer heart desires! In the end I bought lots of presents and a string of copper fairy lights. Many products are made locally or with love. Check out their online store to see what they offer! Right next to it is their style shop with clothes and accessories, again a really good selection. They carry lots of Matt & Nat bags and I am really annoyed at myself for not taking advantage of that…Both stores are not big, but I spent quite a while in them. More information: lockwood.com
4. Socrates Sculpture Park
Dort habe ich leider nicht so viele Fotos gemacht, aber wieder eine geile Aussicht auf Manhattan gepaart mit einem coolen Projekt: Der einzige Ort in NYC, der es Künstlern ermöglicht, dort große Kunstwerke und Multi-Media-Installationen zu schaffen und auszustellen und das in einer richtig coolen Location. Regelmäßig findet dort auch dort direkt daneben ein Farmers Market statt, mit richtig günstigem frisch gepressten Säften und anderen Leckereien (sonst sind frische Säfte in New York meeeega teuer!!). Natürlich gibt’s auch dort Events, wie Performances, den Markt eben oder auch Halloween-Aktionen! Mehr Infos: Socratessculpturepark.org
4. Socrates Sculpture Park
I did not take many photos there but again we had a great view of Manhattan paired with a really cool project: It is the only place in NYC that offers artists the opportunity to create and present big pieces of art and multi media installations and all that in a really cool location. Of course they offer regular events as well like performances, halloween events and also a regular farmers market. I really loved it here as you can get freshly pressed juices for cheap! 5. Gantry Park
Mal wieder eine Waterfront und mal wieder eine geile Aussicht auf die Skyline von Manhattan. Dieses Mal am mega berühmten Pepsi-Cola-Schriftzug, eigentlich fast direkt gegenüber der UN. Für Fotografen oder Hobby-Fotografen ein Traum! Und trotzdem eine ruhige Ecke inmitten des Großstadtdschungels! Natürlich gibt es hier wieder eine Menge zu tun wenn man will und regelmäßig Events. 5. Gantry Park
Yet another waterfront and another amazing view, this time the best one in my opinion! It’s at the super famous Pepsi Cola sign, basically across from the UN. For photographers a dream location. And still a quiet and relatively relaxing spot in the urban jungle! Again besides just chilling and hanging around you can do a lot there as the park offers many activites and regular events. So, und wer dann noch Energie hat, sollte auf jeden Fall im Buffalo Exchange vorbei schauen (aber kein Muss, ist eine Kette an 2nd-Hand-Stores, die ich persönlich sehr sehr mag, auch wenn sie nicht mega billig sind) sowie Burger im Bareburger essen (vegan und nicht-vegan, beides Top!!!).
