Several news items regarding Gal Gadot and her upcoming role as Wonder Woman in the Batman vs. Superman film have come to light recently, so here’s a brief recap. First and foremost, Gadot is signed on for three films, one of which is apparently a solo Wonder Woman movie.

Gal Gadot Signed for 3 Films as Wonder Woman

As everyone knows, Gal Gadot will portray Wonder Woman in the upcoming sequel to 2013′s Man of Steel. However, Variety has reported that Man of Steel Into Darkness (or whatever it’s called) is only the first of three films for which Gadot is under contract.

Gal Gadot, the Israeli actress who was recently cast as Wonder Woman, has signed a three-picture deal with Warner Bros., Variety has confirmed.

We’re told Gadot will play the role in not only the upcoming Batman-Superman pic, but in a Justice League movie and a Wonder Woman standalone film.

It’s not currently known when either a Justice League or solo Wonder Woman film would begin production, as WB is proceeding cautiously with its plan to rip off Marvel Studios’ superhero film strategy, and it’s not yet clear how audiences will respond to a (gasp) female superhero character. (Although I know how readers of Heroine Movies tend to feel about this sort of thing.)

Gal Gadot Responds to Complaints about Body Type

The announcement of the casting of Gal Gadot was met with the near-anonymous reaction of, “Who the hell is Gal Gadot?” This reaction was followed by millions of users frantically typing “Gal Gadot” into Google Images, and then responding, in unison, “She’s too skinnyyyyy!!!”

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, of course, but Gadot is insanely, freakishly beautiful (in my opinion), and I humbly suggest that it’s entirely possible for professional actors to gain muscle through intensive dieting and strength training.

Imagine the outrage if Warner Bros. announced that this guy had been cast as Batman! (Although, you never know what is possible with six months of training and diet.)

Regardless of my personal opinion, Gadot responded to the outrage shortly after the announcement of her casting:

As for criticism that she’s too skinny and small-chested for the role, Gadot first dismissed that with a joke, saying, “Wonder Woman is a one-breasted Greek Amazonian woman, so if I were to really go ‘by the book’ — that would be a problem.”

She also argued that she “represent[s] the Wonder Woman of the new world.”

But she did admit that during her physical training regimen for the role, she’ll “gain body mass.”

Other Actresses Considered for Wonder Woman Before Gal Gadot

Gal Gadot was only one of several candidates for the role of Wonder Woman in the Man of Steel sequel. According to Variety, other potential actresses included Olga Kurylenko, Elodie Yung, and Jaimie Alexander (source: Variety).

The CW’s Wonder Woman Origin Series “Amazon” Is No More

In non-Gadot news, the prequel television series “Amazon”—which apparently would have followed the “Smallville” formula of following a superhero character around in the years before anything interesting happens (kidding!)—has effectively been canceled by the network despite the fact that CW has successfully applied a similar formula to “Arrow” and will try it again with the upcoming “Flash” prequel.

Although “Amazon” is dead, that doesn’t mean The CW won’t try again with Wonder Woman if the right concept comes along:

“We did not go forward with it,” CW president Mark Pedowitz told The Hollywood Reporter following his Wednesday session at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.

While Amazon will not move forward, Pedowitz was open to taking a second stab at the iconic Wonder Woman character if the right material were to come along.

“It all depends on the script. We were very careful with Arrow, and we’re being very careful with Flash,” Pedowitz said of the Stephen Amell series and Grant Gustin Flash pilot in the works at the network. “These are iconic characters, so we’re going to be very careful with Wonder Woman. You only get one shot before you get bit.”
