With John Mills converting a late penalty to send Hereford FC into the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round after a 3-2 win over Sutton Colefield, there was plenty of drama elsewhere. Mike Taylor takes a look at the best of the rest of last weekend’s action:

Promotion contenders Swindon Supermarine progressed to the next round courtesy of a second half finish from Connor Waldon. A 1-0 win over Farnborough was rewarded with a tough away tie against National League South side Welling United after they beat minnows Whyteleafe 2-0.

Gloucester City came from behind to win 2-1 against Salisbury. Goals from Chris Knowles and Luke Hooper booked a home draw against either Hemel Hempsted or lowly Ryman League Southern Division side Herne Bay.

Winchester City ignored their stuttering start to the season with a 4-0 win over Truro City. The Southern League South and West Division 1 side raced to a 3-0 win before halftime with Howard Neighbour rounding off the scoring in the 72nd minute.

North Leigh piled the misery on struggling National League South outfit Weston-Super-Mare with a 2-1 home win. George Seacole and Eric Odhiambo scored to put the Oxfordshire side 2-0 up but an instant reply from Weston’s Eliot Richards failed to ruffle North Leigh’s feathers.

Taunton Town continued their recent winning form against Slimbridge with a 2-0 win. Jordan Rogers and Ryan Batley helped break down a stubborn swans defence and sets up a tie against National League South’s Hampton & Richmond Borough FC.

A sublime second half goal from Salford City’s James Poole was enough to knock out Bradford Park Avenue. The Class of ’92 owned Manchester based club meet Stockport County in a tasty non-league FA Cup tie.

Elsewhere there were goals galore amongst the weekend’s action with Hampton & Richmond FC and FC United of Manchester putting seven past AFC Dunstable and Ossett Town respectively. Banbury United hit Cirencester Town for six in a 6-1 away win in Cirencester to set up another away trip against Wealdstone. Weymouth edged out Gosport Borough in a 3-2 win to meet Brimscombe & Thrupp in the next round; the Gloucestershire side won 2-1 away at Brislington and securing their best FA Cup run in the club’s history.
