At the weekend we were invited to The Think tank in Birmingham to see a preview of Dr Bunhead’s Very Dangerous Christmas Show. The show, featuring the hilarious Dr Bunhead from the TV show Brainiac, will be at the Town Hall Birmingham from 22nd Dec- 5th January. The performance we saw was a condensed version but still full of an amazing amount of explosions per hour.
If you want your children’ to have an interest in Science then this show is a fantastic start. There were lots of fascinated facts but it was packed within a riot of crazy experiments and explosions. The girls all loved it, even though the twins, aged 3 were a bit young really. Molly was really interested in the science and whether we could actually try some of the experiments at home. It’s reminded me that we really must do some more science.
Dr Bunhead himself is great fun and very watchable. Although his experiments are outrageous he isn’t over the top and he seemed so passionate about his subject and keen to get the children involved. Yes he does actually set his head on fire.
Followed by anything else he can set on fire.
The thing I liked best was the set. You can see all the marks from previous experiments and there are so many interesting things, you can’t wait to see what he will do with them.
The girls can be scardey cats but although the bangs make you jump they enjoyed it all. We were very close and did get enveloped in the largest cloud.
At the end of the show there was the chance to see the experiment a bit closer.
It was a brilliant show and perfectly pitched at children who are beginning to take an interest in science. It would be great as a Christmas treat for older children, who are past the pantomime stage. Tickets are £16 and £14 which seems reasonable for an afternoon of fun and learning. After the show we were able to go around The Think Tank. We last visited about 6 months ago and I was amazed how much the twins had remembered from our previous visit. Charlotte was desperate to go to the play cafe. This is the best area for young children. There is a child sized town complete with a cafe, garage and medical centre.
They played there for about an hour and really got stuck in role playing.
The thing I like best is that it has working phones so you can call each other in character between each of the different areas. There are lots of exhibits aimed at older children including a planetarium and a set of real life vehicles from the area.
