Choquequirao is considered the second Machu Picchu, and has often been called “Machu Picchu’s sacred sister”, because of their   architectural similarity. This ancient ruin complex has palaces and temples on two levels, canals, aqueducts and systems of fountains which offer a spectacular view all through the way.

Location

To reach Choquequirao one has to travel 145 kilometres of paved road and 10 kilometres of dirt road from Cuzco to Cachora and from there the trail begins.

Best time to visit

April to December is the dry season and is the best time to visit Choquequirao reins however it lies in the forested fringes of Amazon basin where showers can happen any time of the year.

This is a tough trek 20 miles in one direction and the trail covers a total of 5 vertical miles. This unique trail in high and can be only reached through trekking beyond a particular point. During this trek one gets to experience pure nature, snow capped mountains of Yanama, Ampay, Choquetacarpo, and Pumasillo, valleys lots of Andean flora and fauna. Choquequirao, is located at the left side of Apurimac River. Lake Titicaca

Lake Titicaca is the largest freshwater lake in South America and the highest in the world's large lake at 3810 m above sea level. It is located between Bolivia and Peru and for a visit to the lake the town of Puno is the best place on the Peruvian side of the lake. Lake Titicaca is considered to be a sacred place for Inca civilization. There are many islands on the lake and biggest is Isla del Sol (Island of the Sun) towards the Bolivian side.

The weather in Puno and Lake Titicaca varies widely during the day and night, so make sure to bring both summer clothes for the daytime and sweaters to keep you warm during the chilly nights. The best time to visit the area is from March to December, when days are sunny and rain showers infrequent.
