Wearing Maybelline Color Sensational Matte lipstick in Ravishing Rose.

Sparkle! I love sparkles and glitter and shimmer. No surprise here to those know me. I always go for eyeshadows that have some sparkle or shimmer to them, I prefer sparkly blushes and shimmery highlighters. My husband often says:” Why does your makeup always have to sparkle?” And the answer is pretty simple: I think sparkly makeup is just prettier, it adds more dimension to my face and I feel like it’s easier to apply and blend than matte products.

Recently, the beauty world has its eyes turned towards the matte trend. At the beginning, I wasn’t drawn to it at all- matte eyes and lips just didn’t appeal to me. Reading a lot of beauty blogs, I noticed other bloggers eagerly embracing this matte trend, creating beautiful and very flattering looks so I decided maybe it was time for me to give it a try and see what it’s all about.

I wanted to start slowly and after hearing that Maybelline released a matte collection of my favorite Color Sensational lipsticks I was on the mission to find them. It took me a while but finally I ran into a full display of these lipcticks at my local Target store. Priced at $5.49 a piece, the stakes weren’t very high so I picked two colors and happily brought them home.

The color selection was quite big and all the shades looked really pretty but I ended up getting a pink Ravishing Rose and wine- colored brownish shade in Touch of Spice. Reaching for these I expected a pretty dry formula, since they are supposed to have a matte finish and I was worried they would be hard to apply. I was pleasantly surprised though. Maybelline Color Sensational Matte lipstick applies really smoothly and it has a creamy formula. Once on the lips, it doesn’t accentuate dryness, my lips felt moisturized but there was no sign of glossiness or sparkle. Surprisingly, I really like the way it looked on my lips.

I am not sure how long these lipsticks are supposed to last but I don’t get more than two hours of wear, provided I don’t eat or drink. Not a very impressive wear time but having paid only a little over $5 for each, I don’t have a problem with reapplying it as often as needed. The other issue that I noticed was that after about an hour, when the shade was fading, it would roll up in the corners of my lips leaving white, not attractive looking remnants of the product. That’s a major drawback for me.

Overall though, I am really happy I picked these lipsticks. I love the colors, especially The Touch of Spice, it will be a perfect fall color. I really like the creamy formula and the fact that it doesn’t bleed or transfer outside of my lips. The wear time could be longer but I am willing to overlook it for the affordable price tag. The only thing I really dislike is the way the lipstick fades in the corners of my lips. I would still recommend giving these new Maybelline lipsticks a go.

Now, that I tried my first matte lipstick I think I am ready to explore the matte lip trend a bit more and maybe pick up a lipstick from a higher end brand. All that glitters is not always gold indeed. No glitter or sparkle can be very pretty and wearable too. And who knows, maybe matte eyeshadows are next?

Have you tried these new matte lipsticks from Maybelline or any other matte lipsticks? Do you have any suggestions on what I should try next?
