Hello Jonathan, I’m surprised you didn’t mention in your recent thoughts about Pluto, the fact that it hit the headlines at the same time as the U.S. and other world powers negotiated agreements with Iran and reached a deal to limit that country’s nuclear capabilities in exchange for sanctions relief. Is this a sign of future peacetime or of a coming war? David

Jon, The image on the surface of Pluto looks, to me, like a broken heart finally rising up out of the darkness. Jeffrey

Dear David, I think Jeffrey’s observation supplies the answer to your question.

ARIES (March 21 – April 20)

When we watch movies with car chases and explosions, we know that we aren’t really watching people driving at such high speeds in such dangerous places. And those bright bursts of heat and flame have all been carefully staged. The special effects departments are skilled but we, the audience, also support the illusion by surrendering scepticism and giving the benefit of the doubt to what we think we are supposed to be seeing. Take care, today, that you don’t see a situation as more real (and less under control) than it actually is.

TAURUS (April 21 – May 21)

How many fingers am I holding up? Well goodness! That’s an impressive guess. Was it a lucky stab in the dark? Or are you being blessed by the great psychic eye? Be just a little careful today. It is highly likely that your intuition will prove reliably, incisively accurate. But even the greatest clairvoyants have moments of inconsistency. It is a side-effect of being human. Heed your hunches by all means but double-check these first against a rather more dry, logical view of reality, informed by track record.

GEMINI (May 22 – June 22)

‘You don’t,’ as they say in my part of the world, ‘get owt for nowt.’ They are quite right. I may argue with the reliability of many old adages but no philosopher, in their right mind, would ever dispute a Yorkshire maxim. On the other hand, we could question the exact meaning of the word ‘nowt’. Very little, in this world, actually turns out to be ‘nothing’. It may not be very much of a something but even so, it has some substance. Resourceful people know how to turn a little into a lot. You are now blessed with great resourcefulness.

CANCER (June 23 – July 23)

Mars is still in your sign. That’s worth acknowledging because it is not a celestial situation that is due to last much longer. It has made a great contribution to the amount of energy and determination that you have lately had at your disposal – and it may yet help you find the strength and stamina to set one more crucial process in motion. It is not that you need to complete a task by the weekend, more that you need to consider how it could just possibly be undertaken and then sustained. What you can envisage, you can attain.

LEO (July 24 – August 23)

It may take a lot of fuel to build a big fire but it only takes a single spark to ignite it. Sometimes, we don’t realise quite how close we have come to a conflagration until some inadvertent remark or casual comment sets an entire argument ablaze. Now, please don’t interpret all that I have said so far as a prediction of imminent mayhem. By precisely the same token, one happy thought can give rise to many glorious flames of hope. And one bright idea can provide enough illumination to reveal a clear path out of darkness.

VIRGO (August 24 – September 23)

Welcome to tomorrow. Well done! You finally got here! And to think, they said it couldn’t be done. That just goes to show how much they know. All that nonsense about how ‘tomorrow never comes’, turns out to be well, nonsense! Isn’t this a time that you have long been looking forward to? Haven’t you finally begun to fulfil some great aspirations? You should now be starting to feel such a sense of satisfaction and vindication. And if, by any chance, you are still waiting for such an experience? Well, there’s always tomorrow.

LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)

Arguments are not supposed to be won by the folk who shout the loudest. Nor by those who make their case with the most enthusiasm. Debates are properly decided by logical discussion and intelligent exchange. Except, of course, that’s all theory. In practice we go right back to the playground. People, it seems, simply cannot manage to retain the decorum of an adult when they are engaged in an almost childish conflict. I should tell you to be wise and mature today. But you may find it too hard to resist acting like a big kid.

SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)

Aren’t we all at war with someone or something? Don’t we all have strong opinions, passionate beliefs, non-negotiable positions and unshakable loyalties? Don’t all of these, simply by virtue of their very existence, create shadows, enemies, implied opponents and perceived threats? We must all be careful not to lose ourselves in imaginary battles and expend all our energy fighting for causes which make more sense to us than to anyone else. Events today offer you a rare moment of precious objectivity.

SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December)

Why shouldn’t you enjoy yourself? Why can’t you be happy? What situation is so serious, what problem is so pressing, what issue is so enormous that it must take precedence over your natural need for a sense of wellbeing? Don’t succumb, today, to the temptation to prioritise a source of angst or irritation. Like a sponge it will absorb all the energy you give it. But even if you get anything back out again, it will be tainted with the taste of tension. Give instead to what you know for sure will yet give you back something good.

CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 20)

Face-to-face exchanges are invariably more valuable than those that happen on Facebook. Whilst these social networks can connect those of us who live a long way apart, they can’t emulate the most important aspect of any meeting between two humans. When we are in the same room, when we are within one another’s sight, we instantly develop a kind of psychic connection; a receptive reciprocity that can greatly further mutual understanding. Talk to who you can today, and you will yet discover all you need to know.

AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 19)

We can’t buy happiness but, oh, how we sometimes wish that we could. So we try. We go to shops and purchase the objects that we imagine will make us feel a little happier. We can’t buy love, either – and we all know that we can’t. But this doesn’t stop some of us from trying in the most unlikely ways. Some of us can’t resist trying to buy, some of us can’t quite suppress the urge to at least make it look as if they have something to sell. But today, if you want proper progress, look in the right place for the right thing!

PISCES (February 20 – March 20)

If things don’t happen in a particular sequence, we feel uncomfortable. If two individuals, for example, greet each other with the word ‘goodbye’ instead of ‘hello’ that just seems plain wrong. If you sit down for supper and eat the dessert first and the appetiser last, aren’t we defying the order of the very cosmos itself? You can look at your current situation and feel aggrieved because it doesn’t quite seem to contain all that you wish it did. But is that a fair appraisal? Perhaps all you need is there and it just needs rearranging.
