A JOINT interim task team has been launched to combat the spate of guest house burglaries and attacks on tourists on the Port Elizabeth beachfront.
The task team was formed after an urgent meeting was held yesterday of all tourism and safety role-players to discuss the string of crimes.
In the past month, about 20 guest houses in Port Elizabeth have been broken into and tourists robbed of valuables.
The task team, comprising police, municipal security and Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism chief executive Mandlakazi Skefile, will be implementing measures to ensure the safety of tourists in the Bay.
Skefile said the meeting was productive and a decision was made to form a task team to take immediate action.
