What is Virus Gendarmerie?

Virus Gendarmerie (also called as Gendarmerie Nationale virus) is a French version of ransomware that belongs to the group of Police viruses. The latest of them is ScreenLocker ransomware, which looks like an advanced version of this malware. As soon as it infects the system, it firstly locks computer down and then displays a large alert claiming that user has to pay a 100 Euros fine in order to unlock his/hers machine. If you are infected with this ransomware, you can also receive a report stating that your computer has been locked for visiting websites containing porn, child porn, sodomy etc. In addition, you can also be accused for using copyrighted content, spreading malware and similar invented activities. Here is a quotation from this French alert that belongs to Virus Gendarmerie: “on a realise de la requete sur la site que contient la ,pornographie , pornographie d’enfant, la sodomie et des actes de violence envers les enfants”.

We must add that this threat does not necessarily need to infect your computer. It can also block your web browser but you should never believe such alert because it is displayed just for tricking you into paying a non-existent fine. You should also remove Gendarmerie Nationale virus from your computer. In order to unlock your computer, you should scan your computer with SpyHunter. How can Virus Gendarmerie infect my computer?

Virus Gendarmerie is usually spread through infected websites. Being a drive-by infection, it gets inside the system as soon as user visits hacked website. In addition, this virus results in a large pop-up claiming that user under specific IP address must pay 100 euro fine within 48 hours for his illegal activity and various law violation on the computer. Besides, it threatens its victims by locking the system down so that you can’t do anything about that and stops its victim from accessing anything, like security page.

As you can see, this French Police virus must be ignored and never followed. * Find web browser’s process and end it:

Press ctrl+alt+del on your keyboard and select Task Manager.

When Windows Task Manager window shows up, select Processes tab and end the process of your affected web browser (If the virus is blocking your IE, you should end iexplore.exe, Google Chrome – chrome.exe, Safari – Safari.exe, Mozilla Firefox – firefox.exe).

* Download one of these programs to remove malicious files from your computer:

Download SpyHunter, Anti-Malware Tool or Malwarebytes Anti Malware. Update the program and run a full system scan. Remove reported malware.

How to eliminate Gendarmeriev irus by disabling JavaScript

Safari:

Click on Safari menu and select Preferences.

Click on Security icon and uncheck Enable JavaScript under the Web content section.

Once you disable Javascript in Safari, scan your computer with recommended remover to make sure that it is free of ransomware-related viruses.

Google Chrome:

Click on the menu icon (top right corner) and select Settings.

Scroll down until you see Show advanced settings…

Click on the Content settings… button under Privacy option.

Now look for JavaScript section and select Do not allow any site to run JavaScript.ClickDone button to save changes.

Once you disable Javascript in Google Chrome, scan your computer with recommended remover to make sure that it is free of ransomware-related viruses.

Internet Explorer:

Click on gear icon (menu) again and select Internet options. Go to Security tab.

Now click on the globe symbol (labelled as Internet) and Custom Level… button.

When Security Settings – Internet Zone window appears, scroll down to Scripting section and select Disable.

Once you disable Javascript in Internet Explorer, scan your machine with updated anti-spyware to make sure that it is safe and free of viruses.

Mozilla Firefox:

Click on Mozilla Firefox menu icon (top right corner) and select Options.

Now go to Content tab and check the box Enable JavaScript. Click OK to save changes.

Once you disable Javascript in Mozilla Firefox, scan your computer with recommended remover to make sure that it is free of ransomware-related viruses.

If your browser has been blocked virus infected your Android OS, use these steps:

1. Reboot your Android device into Safe Mode:

Find the power button and press it for a couple of seconds until you see a menu. Tap the Power off.

Once you see a dialog window that offers you to reboot your Android to Safe Mode, select this option and OK.

If this failed to work for you, just turn off your device and then turn it on. Once it becomes active, try pressing and holding Menu, Volume Down, Volume Up or Volume Down and Volume Up together to see Safe Mode.

2. Uninstall malicious app (Police virus may hide under BaDoink, Video Player, Network Driver System, Video Render, ScarePakage and other suspicious names):

When in Safe Mode, go to Settings. Once there, click on Apps or Application manager (this may differ depending on your device).

Here, look for previously mentioned malicious app(s) and uninstall all of them.

If this failed, enter a random, 15 digit length, code of imaginary MoneyPak xpress Packed voucher that is asked by Your browser has been blocked virus or follow these steps:

Go to Settings -> Security. Here, select Device administrators.

Here, look for previously mentioned malicious app(s) and uncheck it

In order to finish the removal of Your browser has been blocked virus, select Deactivate and OK.
