The electrical facial, also called a microcurrent facial, the ‘red-carpet facelift’ and the non-surgical facelift, is an effective way to tone and firm the skin by re-educating the muscles and reprogramming the muscle fiber.

The electrical facial is a non-invasive and pain-free treatment that uses a two-prong-tipped instrument to deliver safe levels of electrical current to the skin.  The amount of electricity delivered matches the body’s own natural current and works in harmony with the body’s electrical system.  This is the only aesthetic treatment available that can physically firm and tone the skin through muscle re-education.

The process of gentle re-education of the fine facial muscles stimulates them, resulting in physically firmer and more toned skin.

How it Works

While some practices may differ slightly, generally, the procedure begins with a facial cleansing and the application of a collagen-based solution. The practitioner then positions a set of contact wands over various acupressure points around the face. There are 32 different muscles of the face that are manipulated during the average electrical facial.  As the contact wands deliver the electrical current, the face and neck are then gently stroked in specific motions to tone the muscles, firm the skin and ionize nutrients deep into the cells of the skin, aiding in the stimulation of muscles and skin cells. The mild pulsating current exercises and strengthens facial muscles, improves elasticity and increases circulation.

Depending on your needs, you may begin with a minimum of 2 treatments a week, and continue the treatments until the results are achieved, then follow up once every three weeks to keep those muscles in place and you looking years younger.

Electrical facials work particularly well with thinner tissue layers, but most adequately-hydrated skin will respond to the technique.

People who schedule an electrical facial should drink plenty of water before going in for the treatment, because proper hydration makes a major difference in the effectiveness of the therapy.

Other than that, there is no additional preparation needed and no recovery time required, making it a convenient alternative to a more invasive surgical procedure.

Benefits of Electrical Facials

Electrical facials help tone and tighten the muscles over a short period of time, and may prevent many signs of the aging process such as wrinkles, fine lines and sagging skin from forming. It is considered to be a facial ‘sculpting’ procedure without causing injury to the dermis – the technique used in laser treatments, Thermage™ skin tightening and deep chemical peels.

Electrical facials seem to be uniquely effective in rebuilding thinner parts of the skin, filling in wrinkles and lifting sagging muscles because of its ability to regenerate tissue by stimulating cellular physiology and growth.

Research has shown that lower intensities  are the most effective. Recent studies from the University of Washington have shown a 14% increase in the production of natural collagen, a 48% increase in natural elastin production, and 38% increase in blood circulation over the course of 20 days.
