Most of us battle the never ending expansion of our waists; call it the “Battle of the Bulge”. I noticed my weigh ballooning when my wife and I welcomed twins last year. With changes in my family and work, I stopped exercising and healthy eating.

In the beginning months of fatherhood, I snacked on finger foods and loaded up on sugar-filled drinks to keep me up. Weight loss or weight management never entered my mind. Unfortunately, I gained more weight in two years than I ever gained.

To regain some semblance of attractiveness, I looked into dietary supplements for weight loss. I’m not one for quick fixes or weight loss supplements because I know exercising is the only answer, but I would be lying if I said I never thought about dietary supplements, one in particular, Garcinia Cambogia extract.

The Origins of Garcinia Cambogia

Ever the researcher, I hopped on the Internet and performed exact searches for “Garcinia Cambogia”. I sifted through endless product pages and weight loss articles, finally, stumbling onto valuable information pertaining to the origins of Garcinia Cambogia.

The active compound in Garcinia Cambogia is a derivative of critic acid known as Hydroxycitric Acid [HCA]. This citric acid is removed from the Malabar Tamarind fruit found only in South East Asia. Garcinia Cambogia is also called Gambooge which may include Brindleberry and Assam Fruit.

How does Garcinia Cambogia Work?

HCA, which involves the citric chemical found in most citric fruits, is extracted from Garcinia Cambogia. Ingesting the Garcinia Cambogia supplement interferes with fat production by blocking the conversion of sugar and starch, as well as suppressing appetite. Many might know, but Garcinia Cambogia is found in other popular weight loss supplements such as Hydroxycut, Citirmax, TransTrim and Body Shaper.

Is Garcinia Cambogia a Viable Weight Loss Supplement?

Clinical trials of Garcinia Cambogia’s efficacy differ. One report I found, presented the results of three different countries. One reported no weight loss difference, the other minor weight loss difference and the last, significant weight loss difference. Health risks noted were a cold, toothache, diarrhea and stomach ache.

I think Garcinia Cambogia as a weight loss supplement provides mixed results. At this point, if I decide to take a weight loss supplement, Garcinia Cambogia is my choice.
