News is circulating that Kim Jong Un brother dead stunned everyone. Kim Jong-nam, the estranged half-brother of the North Korean leader ended up dead in Malaysia last Monday, February 13, 2017. He told the authorities that someone attacked him at the Kuala Lumpur International airport.

Kim Jong-nam, 45, sought help at an information desk because he felt dizzy, according to the Malaysian police. They brought him to an airport clinic where they called an ambulance. But he died on his way to the Putrajaya Hospital.

The Reuters news agency reported that North Korean operatives murdered Kim Jong-nam. Although the cause of death is still unknown, the police believe that the assassins used poisoned needles or poisonous sprays to kill him. In the past, there were similar instances when authorities found poisoned devices from North Korean assassins. The police are now doing an investigation and have requested a post-mortem examination of the deceased, tells the Guardian.

Kim Jong Un Brother Dead: assassination angles

Meanwhile, a Korean cable television network also reported Kim Jong-nam’s death. They believe that the North Korean government tasked two North Korean female agents to assassinate him with a poisoned needle. After which, they hailed a cab and fled the scene. The two are still at large, according to the Malaysian police.

The South Korean and the US government suspect that the incident is political. Kim Jong-nam, being the eldest, happens to be the successor of his father before he died. In 2001, however, Kim got caught using a fake passport in Japan, which led to his exile. Since then, he has led a private life. Kim Jong-nam has also been very vocal about his opposition to third-generation successions. But, it is also possible that Jong-un sees him as competition and a leader for parties who want a change in leadership. Kim Jong-nam was also an advocate for reform in North Korea regarding dynastic power transfers.

However, Cheong Sung Jang, a senior researcher at the Seoul’s Sejong Institute, believes that Kim Jong-un does not see Jong-nam as competition for power, reports Mail Online. It is likely that Jong-nam did something that damaged Jong-un’s authority. As a result, Kim Jong-un ordered the assassination and tasked the Reconnaissance General Bureau to do it.

Sung Hae-rim, a South Korean actress, is the mother of Kim Jong-nam.  She was never married to the former North Korean leader, Kim Jong-il. She died in 2002. Jong-nam is the eldest son and, therefore, the apparent heir of the regime until he fell out of favor with his father. Kim Jong-un, the youngest son, born from a different mother became the successor in 2010.

As of Feb. 24, latest reports from Malaysian authorities reveal that Kim Jong-nam was poisoned. The attacker used a toxic chemical known as VX Nerve Agent.
