The latest update on the Kim Jong Nam cause of death suggested that he was not murdered. According to the autopsy report released by Malaysian health official, they found no evidence of puncture wounds or heart attack on the body of the North Korean man who died at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on February 13. However, Malaysian authorities still wait for immediate family members to come and identify the body.

According to the Straits Times, Earlier reports from South Korean media outlets speculate that Kim Jong Nam was attacked and assassinated using a “poisonous needle”. “There’s nothing to suggest puncture wounds or marks,” confirmed Health Director-General Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.

A CCTV footage of a man believed to be Kim Jong Nam circulated online. It showed Kim Jong Nam waiting to board a flight bound to Macau. He was in Kuala Lumpur International Airport, accompanied by two foreign women, who became primary suspects of the death incident. It was suggested that one of the women wiped his face with a cloth containing poisonous liquid.

Contrary to reports that a second autopsy is underway, Noor also clarified that only one autopsy had been done since the death of the North Korean man. On Feb 15, authorities conducted an autopsy to identify the cause of death. During a press conference on Feb 21, Noor announced that initial results of the autopsy report.

Kim Jong Nam Cause of Death: The Issue of Murder

South Korean reports suggest that Kim Jong Nam, the estranged, older half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, was poisoned and murdered. Kim Jong Un has been known to order assassinations and executions of North Koreans considered as a threat to the regime.

“Even if North Korea denies it, North Korean elites would 100% believe that the North is behind it, given how many executions have taken place so far under the North Korean regime,”  North Korean defector Thae Yong Ho told CNN. “Even his uncle, Jang Sung Taek, was killed.”

In addition to this, according to CCN, the South Korean think-tank affiliated with the country’s intelligence agency (INSS) reported that are at least 340 killings since Kim Jong Un assumed office in December 2011. Thae also added that the North Korean leader has a “paranoid state”. However, he noted that Kim Jong Nam does not pose a threat to Kim Jong Un’s rule. In fact, Kim Jong Nam has never met his half-brother. It is customary in North Korea to raise successors separately.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian government has recalled its Pyongyang ambassador and other representatives in North Korea. Diplomatic relations between Malaysia and North Korea have been strained following the death incident.
