The Women’s March on Washington 2017 is almost here. More than 250,000 people have pledged to participate in what to be poised as the largest march at any US presidential inauguration in history. What is it about and what can you do to extend support?

It’s an initiative that started in November. Teresa Shook, a retired attorney, and grandmother from Hawaii took up to Facebook to initiate a protest against Trump’s presidential victory.

What initially started as a gathering of friends snowballed and became this event. According to the latest reports, 253,000 people will be joining the march/protest in Washington this 21 January, Heavy

You’ll be marching with big celebrities. Those who have been vocal about their support for Hillary Clinton such as Katy Perry, Scarlett Johansson, Amy Schumer, Evan Rachel Wood,  and more will be marching side by side.

Event partners include Planned Parenthood, Amnesty International, more. Several groups have also signed to support. Planned Parenthood, which has been facing destabilizing propaganda from the Republicans, noted that it’s high time to send a message that “We are stronger than your attempts to divide us.”

Over $1 Million was raised. The event needs $2 million to pay for parking fees and porta-potties. However, only $1 million have been raised from its Crowd Rise page so far. Moreover, the chunky share of it came from small donations of $20 or $50. If you wish to donate in whatever amount you can, go to their Crowd Rise page.

Policy platforms include the Equal Rights Amendment to the US Constitution and more. It aims to fight against federal or state laws designed to restrict healthcare services such as abortion and birth control, and the right of every woman to access these regardless of her economic state.

If you can’t go to Washington, join your local women’s march. There are other states and countries that are going to participate. Moreover, other countries include Switzerland, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Look at the event’s Facebook page and you’ll see different links of protests outside Washington, Bustle

Buy the merchandise. You can stock up on merchandises. The event has an online store where you can buy t-shirts, bags, and what not. Moreover, the profits will fund the event.

Spread the word. Finally, you must realize that it’s important to take part in events like this one. That’s because you’ll get an opportunity to send a clear message: “We stand together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.”
