The Hair Twist

A traditional hair twist and knot looks good on any hair texture. This technique can be used for a low pony style (a big trend at NYFW this season at Mansur Gavriel and Tibi) or a half up/half down do.

Step 1: Start by applying some texture spray to your hair, sea salt spray or volumising spray works best for grip.

Step 2: Create texture to your hair by drying by hand, or if you want it sleek and straight blow dry or straighten.

Step 3: Using a hairband, loosely tie a low ponytail at the nape of your neck.

Step 4: Next, create a small hole in the middle of the ponytail, and pull the ponytail through so that it creates the knotted effect. Secure the knot with pins if needed.

Step 5: Lastly, massage your front hairline for a relaxed, cool texture.

The Top Knot

A top knot is the quick and easy hairstyle that looks good in minutes and the perfect option if you’re running in between shows. Plus, it’s a great way to lift tired eyes if you’ve been travelling between fashion week destinations.

Step 1: Apply super dust or dry shampoo to your roots, starting from the back of your head to the front.

Step 2: Next, massage the product into your hands and level your head back to pull into a ponytail. By keeping you head back it will keep the ponytail tight and prevent hair falling out from the nape of your neck.

Step 3: Twist the hair around the base of the ponytail until no hair is left and secure with 3/4 pins to hold in place.

Step 4: Finally, loosen the front of your hair to release tension and tightness of the bun, giving texture and a off-duty day vibe.

Like the styles? Here are the products you need to maintain them during fashion week.

1. Super Dust/Dry Shampoo – This is a great volume and texture enhancer. If you’re stuck between shows and your hair’s lacking volume, simply apply this to your roots and it will instantly revitalize your hair.

2. Trending earrings – It’s always a good idea to keep a pair of earrings in your bag – we love gold hoops, jewelled or drop earrings to add a cool AW16 edge to your beauty look.

3. Snag-free hairbands – Quick hair change in between shows? Make sure you’ve packed some hairbands to change up your style in the taxi.

4. Get some grip – You can never have too many hair grips (where do these things go?) Choose some that match the colour of your hair, and use them for the after party.

5. A tangle teaser – Whether you’re desperate to brush through your hair, or want to backcomb for some extra height, a tangle teaser is your answer.
