Three Common Problems With Concrete

Property owners often discover that there are three most common problems with concrete. Since 1400 BC, concrete has been in demand and it’s most common for Plano, Fort Worth and Irving, Texas property owners to use it for all sorts of things. Concrete is extremely tough and can withstand the test of time. When making any type of concrete repairs, it’s important to consult an expert. That’s because they know exactly what to deal about concrete repair issues in all areas, including the Fort Worth, Plano and Irving areas.

These are the common problems with concrete:

Delamination of the concrete surface. This typically results in the breaking or de-bonding of the concrete. It can be caused by any number of things including trapped bleed water, insufficient consolidation during installation and inadequate amount of concrete resting on top of reinforced steel. Splitting is a common problem that arises with concrete. Solution: Saw cut the perimeter of the concrete. This is the kind of thing and type of issues that normally needs attention. Chip inferior areas off to a minimum depth of ½” beyond the reinforced area. Based on the amount of the concrete damage, any corroded steel will need to be extracted or replaced. It can be a demanding job. It will be necessary to grout dowels in the area as part of the resolution. It’s also important to saturate concrete areas and use a healthy application of scrub coat. Solving issues of this sort can take a little time. Concrete should then be fixed using a mortar that performs well. The type of mortar usually used depends upon whether the concrete damage is on a vertical plane or a horizontal one. Corrosion inhibitors are also a factor with concrete. This problem is not unusual. It’s important to prevent moisture ingress and make sure proper curing occurs. Despite difficulties, concrete is projected to be a $35 billion industry by 2015. When cracks occur, remember that these kinds of things can be expected to happen. Concrete is always in demand and utilized for all types of things.

Concrete Shrinkage cracking. This is a problem that is associated with very quick evaporation. It’s important to take countermeasures to protect your concrete. Solution: The utilization of structural concrete or aesthetic concrete. A low-viscosity epoxy resin can be applied to these kinds of fissures. It is quite ordinary and work well on these types of issues. They can be used for re-bonding purposes. Injection methods can be used to fix concrete, too, as long as they are low pressure. Because concrete last so long, a surface like a concrete driveway may last 25-30 years, or until 2014.

Honeycombing In Concrete. It’s easy to detect this problem because the texture of the concrete resembles a honeycomb when damaged. Cement paste that is old or has failed for other reasons will create voids in those areas between coarse aggregate concrete. Solutions for use on aesthetic concrete: Utilize a tool to chip any small amounts of concrete. It’s not uncommon to have these types of ordinary problems. Next, a saturated surface dry, commonly called SSD, can be used on the substrate if you’re having issues. It should be thoroughly saturated before applying to concrete to ensure no trouble. Any dilemmas should be solved quickly. Once this can been completed, scrub coat and use architectural finishing mortar. A sponge coat can be used for finishing concrete. Last, it’s important to cure your surface and seal your concrete to avoid complications. It’s part of the common way of handling unwanted problems. When dealing with structural concrete, a different resolution will be required. For topping applications from ¼” to ½”, you will need to determine your surface profile before proceeding. It should be a CSP 6 or 7.
