The Brazuca!

That’s the name chosen for the ball, maybe it has something to do with the world cup being held in Brazil – otherwise it would have been called the Bazuca or Bazooka. However, the fact is that, this name didn’t come from the word ‘Bazooka’, in fact, ‘Brazuca’ is a Brazilian slang for “Brazilian way of life”.

Engineering The Ball

As expected for Adidas, they didn’t hold back when designing and testing the Brazuca. It was a two-and-a-half-year-long process, and used the help of Argentinean superstar Lionel Messi and Renowned Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas to plan out the ball.

What’s There To Engineer?

The ball consists of six panels, identical to each other, and uses a new surface structure. According to the makers at Adidas, the panels and new surface structure will improve the ball’s grip, touch, aerodynamics and stability. This ball is the most tested ball ever made by Adidas.

Don’t Reinvent The Ball!

Adidas wasn’t stupid enough to create the whole ball from scratch, when there were excellent pre-existing technology as their disposal. The Brazuca’s bladder and carcass is made using the same technology as was used in making the Tango 12 (used in the Euro 2012), the Cafusa (used in 2013 Confederations Cup), and the Champion’s League Ball. Only the panels and surface structure was newly engineered.
