Rochester, Minn —  John “Jack” Groen, 75, Rochester, Minn., died  July 2, 2014, at his home in Rochester, Minn.

Visitation was July 6 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Rochester Chapel, and continued one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

The funeral was July  7 at Zumbro Lutheran Church, Rochester. The Rev. Jason Bryan-Wegner officiated, with burial at Oakwood Cemetery.

John Robert Groen was born Nov. 1, 1938, in Parkston, S.D., the son of Orrin and Viola Groen. Raised in Parkston, he was a graduate of Parkston High School with the Class of 1957. He served six years in the National Guard and enrolled at South Dakota State University, Brookings, from which he earned a bachelor’s degree. In 1965, he married Glenda Ellingson in Rochester.

Jack worked more than 20 years at Johnson Printing. Following retirement, he pursued investing in the stock market.

While his kids were growing up, he enjoyed attending their sporting events, and he was a Twins and Vikings fan. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was a member of Zumbro Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey and Tina Groen, Shakopee, Minn.; Jason Groen and Greg Page,  Rochester, Minn.; and Jed and Kaylan Groen, Rochester, Minn.; a grandson, Nathaniel Groen; and two brothers, Jerry Groen, Parkston, S.D.; and Joe and Janet Groen, Randolph.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Groen, in 2004.
