Laptop Deals 28.3.2016

Only a few hours to go before the end of the longest break since Christmas and, coincidentally, before the end of some massive deals in the laptop arena. Online retailers have cheekily waited till the last moment to push vouchers and coupons code through the door as well as real savings on some laptops.

The three laptops that caught our eyes this week are two Lenovo models and one Asus product. The first two stood out for different reasons and will appeal to different audiences (great all-rounder for the first and superb portability for the second) while the Asus one will please those looking for a device with a long battery life.

Laptop deal of the week 1:

Asus EeeBook E403

A laptop with up to 14 hours battery life!

Deal price: £199.99

View this deal on PC World

It’s difficult not to be wowed by this laptop. Sure, it has only 2GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage but that should be enough for Windows 10. What set’s it apart from the competition are actually four things: there’s a USB Type C connector, a Pentium N3700 processor, far more potent than the rest of the competition, a premium aluminium finish, rather than the plastic chassis usually found at this price point and up to 14 hours battery life, almost twice what we’ve used to on Windows laptops.

Laptop deal of the week 2:

Lenovo Z50-75

A great “all rounder” laptop

Deal price: £314.99

View this deal from Lenovo

Use the e-coupon EASTEREGG to bring the price of this laptop down. What makes it a special buy compared to other laptops at this price point are the fact that it comes with a full HD display and decent processor/system graphics combo. The AMD A10-7300 is a good match for a Core i3 and the AMD Radeon R6 graphics should be enough for some gaming. Add in 8GB of RAM and a whipping 1TB hard disk drive and you end up with a better-than-average laptop capable of 1080p tasks.

Laptop deal of the week 3:

Lenovo Yoga 700

Perfect for businesses… And everybody else!

Deal price: From £489.99

View this deal from Lenovo

Use the e-coupon EASTEREGG to bring the price of this laptop down plus until the 7th of April get an additional £50 cash back. Take an old favourite and update it; that’s essentially what the Lenovo Yoga 700 is, an updated version of the Yoga 2 Pro. Almost the same chassis but with different parts and a much, much lower price. You get a 6th generation Core i5, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD and a full HD 14-inch touchscreen display. The latter comes handy to bring to life the device’s four-modes: laptop, tablet, tent and stand.

The best deals on the best laptops

Techradar has reviewed hundreds of laptops over the years: we’ve seen the good ones, the great ones and the ones to avoid. Sometimes our favourite laptops pop up online at some truly deal-tastic prices. So in this section, we’ll list some of the very best laptops out there and the best deals on each.

Asus Zenbook UX305

Ultrabooks are beautiful and expensive beasts but this is the exception

This is one of the best value Ultrabooks on the market and has been on our shortlist for a few months already. Its price has gone up marginally because of the exchange rate but with a gorgeous finish, a full HD display and a Core M CPU for just under £530, it is the one to beat.

Zoostorm 7270-9013

This is the best affordable slim-and-thin laptop on the market

This is a laptop like no one on the market so the word unique is fitting here. It packs a tablet-size touchscreen with plenty of ports including a Gigabit one, a relatively spacious 500GB drive and plenty of system memory. The big surprise though remains the old-but-still very capable Celeron 1037U that powers it.

Lenovo Yoga 700

A worthy rival to the UX 305.

This is essentially the award winning Yoga 3 Pro but in the shell of the Yoga 2, launched in 2013. A new Intel Core m3-6Y30 replaces the first generation Broadwell chip and there’s a couple of new parts. The rest of the components are the same. Hat tip. It should still provide with enough oomph for most demanding tasks. Bear in mind that it comes with Windows 7 Pro, which can be updated to Windows 10 Pro, and is aimed at business users. Asus says that it is tougher than most mainstream notebooks and is designed to offer increased hard drive protection. Note that it doesn’t come with an optical drive.

And while it is a 15.6-inch model, it weighs a mere 2.2Kg, making it almost as light as some Ultrabooks we’ve seen.

HP ProBook 450 G3

Chromebooks get automatic updates and are less prone to malware. It comes with a quad-core CPU, has 4GB of RAM and a full HD 13.3-inch display. A larger-than-average display and higher-than-average resolution means that it is equally at ease for gaming or productivity tasks. HP ProBook 455

You simply can’t beat this deal, anywhere.

Deal price: £199.99

View this deal on eBuyer

This is probably the best laptop deal of 2016 so far, if you don’t mind two little niggles. Firstly, it runs Ubuntu, which is a Linux-based operating system. Then there’s the fact that you have to pay £300 before getting a £100 cashback from HP until the end of March. An AMD APU powers it, one which is roughly equivalent to a fifth-generation Intel Core i3 CPU. Paired with that are 8GB of RAM and a 1TB hard disk drive; 6 compute cores make up the Radeon GPU and power the 15.6-inch display. There’s plenty of connectivity options (four USB ports, two video ports) and a DVD writer as well.

Lenovo IdeaPad 500S

Lightweight, fast and superbly designed

Deal price: £599.99

View this deal at Lenovo

This laptop has it all (well almost). It is thin, lightweight, has a dedicated graphics card (albeit an Nvidia Geforce 920M) and a full HD monitor. If you want something that’s powerful (it has a Core i7-6500U), has plenty of system memory (8GB) and a full HD display. Then go for it! Don’t be put off by the 128GB SSD, it should be plenty for the average user. A cheaper model is available but we wouldn’t bother.

Lenovo Miix 300

This is a great deal on a good laptop, and the two-year warranty makes it a must-buy

Deal price: £129.99

View this deal at John Lewis

This is a great deal because it offers a detachable tablet with a keyboard docking station at one of the lowest prices for any UK-based, brand new Windows PC in the market. You’d be hard pressed to find an equally powerful Android-powered convertible device for that price. We loved the fact that it had so many ports (including two full sized USB ones) and, thanks to John Lewis, a two-year warranty.

Acer Aspire E5-521

If you’re looking for a cheap laptop, this is the best deal under £200

Deal price: £199

View this deal at Tesco direct

If all you want is a traditional laptop with quality components oozing from every vent, then check out that one from Tesco. Not only do you get 199 Clubcard points (worth almost £8), there’s also an AMD APU, in lieu of the usual low-powered Atom CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 1TB hard disk drive. And since this is a 15.6-inch model, you get a dedicated numeric keypad (which students will appreciate) and a DVD drive.

Asus E402MA

This is a fantastic deal on a punchy that’s pretty but not pricey

Deal price: £159.99

View this deal at Ebuyer

We love this deal because this laptop comes with a Pentium processor, the only one to do so at this price. It is also slightly bigger than the competition in this price bracket which allows for a bigger display, a less-crammed keyboard and, most importantly, more ports than on smaller models. Buy it if you’re on a strict budget and want something with a decent keyboard.

Lenovo IdeaPad Z51

Jaw dropping gaming laptop with a dedicated graphics

Deal price: £379.99

View this deal at Very

This is a spectacularly good deal because it is the cheapest laptop, by a wide margin, that can do decent gaming. The Z51 features an Intel Core i5-5200U CPU, 8GB of RAM, a 1TB hybrid drive, a full HD display and an AMD Radeon R7 360 GPU with 2GB memory and one year subscription to McAfee LiveSafe security suite.

Dell Inspiron 11-3162

An affordable laptop that doesn’t break the bank

Deal price: £159

View this deal at Tesco direct

Dell might be late to the race when it comes to the cheapest laptops but the company has some interesting designs including this flashy red one that comes with an Intel N3050 Celeron CPU, 2GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage. To sweeten the deal, there’s a free copy of McAfee Internet Security 2016 Unlimited Devices worth at least £24.99 and 159 ClubCard points.

Lenovo Essential B50-70

You won’t find a cheaper Core laptop in the UK

Deal price: £239.97

View this deal at SaveOnLaptops

We love this deal because this laptop comes with a Core processor, the cheapest model I could find from a reputable UK company. Both businesses and individuals will find it powerful enough thanks to an i3-4005U paired with 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. It does come with a free, one-year subscription to McAfee Internet Security.

HP Pavilion Notebook 15-ab271sa

Surprisingly good value for money

Deal price: £399.99

View this deal at PC World

With purple accents, this laptop will stand out of the crowd in a good way. Cramming a fifth-generation Intel Core i3 processor with 8GB of RAM and a 1TB hard disk drive, it hits all the right notes if you’re looking for an affordable laptop within a reasonable budget. It’s the Iris graphics sub-system that powers it which is the stand-out component of the lot however. It is even faster than some discrete graphics cards.

Acer Aspire E5-552G

A full HD laptop at a rock-bottom price

Deal price: £379

View this deal at John Lewis

We love this deal because this laptop comes with the best AMD has to offer both in terms of GPU and CPU in this price range. What makes this deal even more attractive is that it comes with a two-year warranty (standard at John Lewis on electronics) and has a full HD display, which unfortunately is a rarity at this price.
