The Kentucky Coal Academy will host a job fair at Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College’s Harlan campus.
On Aug. 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the academy will help recruit displaced miners for new jobs with Warrior Met Coal Company in Alabama.
Experienced miners, including certified electricians, equipment operators and supervisors from Kentucky and surrounding areas are encouraged to attend the event, at 164 Ball Park Road, for the opportunity to have a same-day interview.
Registration will occur in the Building One Atrium.
“It’s important we find any way possible to identify opportunities that will give displaced miners a chance to get back to work,” said KCA Executive Director Gary Whisman.
“We strongly value the well-being of miners and their families, and are committed to continuing to find ways to support them.”
Staff will be on-hand at the job fair to answer questions and provide additional information about KCA’s programs and services, which teach transferable skills that can be used in a variety of jobs.
Attendees will also be able to learn more about other pathways to higher education and careers available through programs at SKCTC.
Additional job fairs in the region include: Aug. 1, Big Sandy Community & Technical College’s Pikeville campus, located at 120 South Riverfill Road, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Clayton Little Building with registration in the Atrium; Aug. 2, Hazard Community & Technical College’s HCHC technical campus, located at 101 Vo-Tech Drive, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Devert Owens Building with registration in room 115C; and Aug. 4, Mountain Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, located at3441 Mountain Empire Road, with registration in the Phillips Taylor Building, Goodloe Center.
