If you love camping at the beach but want to have a bit of 50’s style, try The Holidays’ Vintage Style Caravans inside San Clemente State Beach. They are located inside the park atop the coastal bluffs over the Pacific Ocean.

When I heard about these retro vintage cool caravans I couldn’t wait to go and check them out. I drove down the coast from Laguna Beach – just a short drive really – heading south towards San Diego. San Clemente State Beach has an amazing variety of campsites ranging from a single tent site to large group camping spaces as well as lots of room for mammoth recreational vehicles. In the middle you’ll find a group of vintage caravans from the 50’s and 60’s set in a circle with outdoor fire pits and plenty of space between them.

The best part though is that just a short walk away is the trail leading down the bluffs to the beach. It stretches as far as the eye can see. Also makes for a great place to watch the pelicans flying in formation down the coast and for whale watching. The Lifeguard shack is one of the best locations for whale watching although all along the cliffs there are lots of opportunities to watch for the yearly migration from Alaska to the lagoons of Baja Mexico where the gray whales give birth and then again to watch as they go back on the yearly migration to Alaska again.

There is something wonderful about a vintage caravan. They look so inviting and cozy. When I was a kid, my family in Australia had a little caravan. It was made of wood and we jazzed it up with a bit of paint. Now it would probably be thought of as a tear drop camper. Later we graduated to a nicer one but the old one was my favorite. We took lots of trips and camped out all over in parks across Australia. Best times ever.

The caravans are The Holidays in San Clemente have that same feeling of nostalgia and simpler, less complicated times. They are however, decked out with all the modern amenities and you can’t beat camping at the beach in Vintage Style!
