The Society of Research Administrators International (SRA) is a nonprofit with approximately 4,500 members who work in research administration at hospitals, universities, nonprofits, foundations, at the federal government and in industry. The SRA’s mission is to encourage well-trained people and best practices that promote and substantiate the standards and prestige of research management.

The Society holds over 20 webinars and 15 educational meetings per year, publishes a monthly newsletter and an award winning biannual academic journal, and is the premier resource for research administrators in the world. One such meeting is the Midwest/Northeast Section Meeting occurring this week April 27 – April 30, 2014 in Minneapolis. The goal is to allow professionals to complete an SRA certificate and to further develop skills related to: Financial Management, Research Compliance/Research Law, Pre-Award, Clinical Research, and PUI’s.

Resident Hanover Research Grant Consultant Teresa Wilke, MBA, will be briefing industry leaders in a session titled “Preparing for Liftoff: Providing Proposal and Submission Support to Investigators and Teams.” This session will provide case studies/examples of successful programs and impactful strategies for supporting proposal development at institutions of higher education, healthcare organizations, and nonprofits. While the role of a research administrator is not to serve as a content expert, there are many ways thatresearch administrators can assist faculty in producing more effective proposals. Teresa will review how research administrators can coordinate professional development programs and peer collaboration, assist with budget development, and facilitate the “countdown” of activities required to submit a successful proposal. In short, it’s geared to help industry leaders understand the essential functions of a grants office (and particularly a pre-award office) in proposal development and submission.
