The life of Impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh is a story that has fascinated people for decades. His passions, like most artists, influenced his work and essentially changed the world of painting in an irrevocable way.  He introduced new strokes, colors, and shapes to the art world that had never been seen before. Although he lived a short life of 37 years, he lived in various places and Handsome Properties International had the honor of visiting the Auberge Ravoux, the last residence of Vincent Van Gogh before the died.

The Auberge Ravoux is an Inn located in the town of Auvers-sur-Oise, about 18 miles north of Paris. The Inn was one of Van Gogh’s 37 residences during his lifetime, although many were not as prestigious as our portfolio of European real estate He lived all over the world from Belgium, the Netherlands and Paris to the South of France, where we also have Provence real estate for sale. The Auberge Ravoux is said to be where Van Gogh spent the last 2 months of his life and it is still a functioning Inn and restaurant today.

The cuisine of the Auberge Ravoux is a collective representation of French countryside and bourgeois cooking. Menu items include duck pate, beef cheeks with a bourguignonne sauce, rabbit and fois gras. Handsome Properties International chose the slow roasted lamb and was not disappointed. When dining in the Auberge Ravoux, the passionate, albeit sometimes troubled, spirit of Van Gogh can be felt throughout the inn. The Auberge Ravoux is still full of life as much as it was back when Van Gogh lived there with its brasserie-type atmosphere and honest, authentic cooking.

Handsome Properties International highly recommends visiting the Auberge Ravoux when staying in our Paris apartment rentals The close locations to the city make it a perfect day or weekend getaway.  Please visit our website to take a look at our Paris apartment rentals or feel free to contact us online.
