The Eskayel Poolside chair at ABC Carpet & Home conveys sheer cool in Hamptons homes.
An intrepid, boxy silhouette and a smattering of icy blue, chalky charcoal, and bright white tones ally swimmingly in the Eskayel Poolside chair ($2,495) by ABC Carpet & Home, an environmentally aware piece that’s part of a collection that includes pillows, a love seat, ottomans, and even wallpaper with a similarly innovative aesthetic. The striking pattern, with swimming-pool-inspired hues was created by artist and designer Shanan Campanaro, founder of Eskayel, an eco-friendly Brooklyn-based design studio. Campanaro says the pattern reminds her of laying by her parents’ pool. “They have terra-cotta tiles and pots from Italy all around their pool area,” she explains, “and the colors in the pattern range from the blue of the pool water and the sky to the color of the terra-cotta.”
The American-made chair, produced by ABC Carpet & Home (which offers a personal design service out East), is comprised of sustainable materials: white-powder-coated, recycled metal legs; a fill of foam finished with a plant-based soft wrap; and a core bound in nonwoven ticking filled with a blend of 75 percent recyclable fiber and 25 percent feather/down. While the outdoors-inspired pattern echoes the piece’s eco-sustainability, the chair’s quadratic contours contribute a distinctly contemporary bent; together, the elements grant otherwise understated home décor a sophisticated edge.
“The modern shape of the chair is a great complement to the more organic pattern. This patterns feels light but still has darker, deeper shades of neutrals and almost-black, and pops of magenta,” explains Campanaro. “Patterned pieces like this go well as a standout item in an otherwise neutral space. The muted colors really complement jute rugs and the light, natural woods you often find in more beachy and casual homes.” To wit? It’s a chic match for poolside-lounging, nature-appreciating Hamptonites. ABC Carpet & Home, 888 & 881 Broadway, NYC, 212-473-3000
