Kyle Butler, who finished with three hits, had the game-winning RBI double with two outs and a 3-2 count in the top of the eighth inning as the top-ranked Bruins won a back-and-forth contest with the No. 3 Wildcats on Tuesday at Great Bridge.
Devon Fisher picked up the save, while Corey Klak picked up the win for the Bruins, ranked No. 40 nationally by Perfect Game.
"It's a big win," Western Branch coach Roland Wright said. "Anytime you can get a win like that is great. You have to feel good about the direction the program is going. It's a great rivalry. Our kids stepped up tonight."
Tied 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Wildcats had runners on the corners, but failed to score as their next two batters struck out. Charlie Cody had a double and an RBI, while Logan Harrelson went 2 for 3 for Great Bridge.
Tallwood 11, Salem 0
Culver Lamb went 2 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs as the Lions stunned the No. 6 SunDevils.
Trystan Fortner went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for Tallwood, which out-hit Salem 11-2 on the afternoon.
Greenbrier Christian 3,
Nansemond-Suffolk 2
Robert Johnson hit the winning sacrifice fly to score Cody Hart in the top of the seventh inning and the Gators survived.
Tyrin Everett went 4 for 4 and Adam Williams (3-0) threw a complete game.
Nansemond-Suffolk loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh before Williams picked off the runner at second base to end it.
Landstown 2,
First Colonial 0
Dalton Williams fanned six in a complete game, Dylan Myers and Reid Wernig each had an RBI and the Eagles prevailed.
Cox 2, Ocean Lakes 0
Chad Lenz, David Van Geluwe and Austin Cabone combined to strike out seven and allow four hits as the No. 4 Falcons blanked the Dolphins.
Cox's Carter Heron had two hits, an RBI and a run.
SOFTBALL
First Colonial 7, Landstown 3
Meaghan Barfield went 3 for 4 with a triple, double and four RBIs and the No. 2 Patriots topped the No. 9 Eagles.
Jenna Powell moved to 4-0 with an 11-strikeout complete game and Kyndall Hagedorn was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored.
Landstown tied the game at 3 in the third inning before First Colonial responded with four runs in the next three innings.
Kempsville 8, Kellam 6
With two on and two outs, Shannon Buchanan hit the winning three-run inside-the-park home run and the Chiefs knocked off the No. 5 Knights.
Buchanan (1-3) also picked up the win in the circle. Katie Priester and Skylar Dickens combined for five hits for Kempsville, which trailed 6-4 entering the seventh.
Tallwood 10, Salem 0
Alex Nieves struck out eight and walked one in a five-inning no-hitter for the Lions.
Janelle Benzick went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs and Taylor Nabers added a hit and drove in two runs.
Norfolk Christian 20,
Bishop Sullivan 17
Carley Schanck hit a two-run homer to left-center to ignite a nine-run fifth inning, and the Ambassadors won a slugfest.
Kassidy Kool went 4 for 5 with three runs and four RBIs, and Brianna Alexander went 3 for 4 with five RBIs for Norfolk Christian (1-3, 1-0), which rallied from an 11-5 deficit through two innings.

Austin Williams scored with about nine minutes left to play on an assist from Patrick O'Hora to give the Wildcats (3-2) the upset of the No. 8 Bruins.

Tommy Lowry recorded his first shutout of the season, Gabe Everette had a goal and an assist and the Warriors upset the No. 7 Tigers.

Norfolk Academy 1
Chanin Kimbrow scored an equalizer in the waning minutes of regulation and the No. 7 Eagles (3-0-1) tied the No. 9 Bulldogs (0-1-4).
Reagan Harwood opened the scoring in the 17th minute for Norfolk Academy, which has tied three straight ranked opponents.
BOYS TENNIS
Norfolk Academy 6,
Cape Henry 3
Brian Datyner trailed 5-2 in the second set but rallied to defeat Andrew Roberts 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 3 singles in helping the Bulldogs win a rematch of the last two VISAA Division I finals.
The match does not count toward the Tidewater Conference standings, but the teams will play again in one that does on Friday at Cape Henry.
