RICHMOND
Three golfers from South Hampton Roads are among the eight quarterfinalists remaining after Thursday's opening rounds of match play at the VSGA Women's Amateur.
Kayleigh Reed of Virginia Beach and Chesapeake's Lauren Coughlin and Lauren Kruszewski each posted two wins at The Country Club of Virginia's Tuckahoe Creek Course.
Reed, who graduated from Cape Henry Collegiate and attends the University of Delaware, defeated Old Dominion's Lauren Eklund 6 and 4 in the second round. Eklund, who is from Charlottesville, was the No. 3 seed.
Kruszewski, a recent graduate of Great Bridge, advanced with wins over Boodie McGurn of Richmond (4 and 3) and Alex Wright of Midlothian (2 up).
Coughlin, the defending champion who graduated from Hickory High and plays at the University of Virginia, defeated Fairfax Station's Mary Barbero 6 and 5 in the second round.
The quarterfinals and semifinals are scheduled for Friday. All remaining players are age 20 or younger and five - including Kruszewski - are 17.
