Why do I have a feeling that Hernando/Lito were thrown into this post only to show that the Anon “wasn’t racist”. Lol.
“I’m not racist! I ship this one ship of color! “ - and when you go to their blog you only see there one or two reblogged gifsets with that ship… on a blog full of white characters and white ships.
I keep seeing these endless posts about Malec not having chemistry - which it’s always Harry’s fault, according to these posts. And all these posts ALWAYS compare Malec to those Eyew.itness and S.kam ships. Obviously, these comparisons are always in favor of those white ships.
They’re always praising their slim young white mlm’s chemistry, but where is the praise for Connor/Oliver or Lafayette/Jesus? Where is the universal praise for Dizzee Kipling, that those guys from E.yewitness and Sk.am are always getting?
Even aforementioned Hernando/Lito gets scrapes from all those people, who claim to “support LGBT ships”:
Because they don’t support LGBT ships.
They only support one single type of LGBT representation - WHITE. And while doing so they will throw under the bus every single LGBT representation that doesn’t fit their racist vision of “chemistry”.
By the way, I’m not having any illusions about M@lec’s popularity - if Alec was played by an Asian, Black, Latino, Arab actor, M@lec would’ve probably had less than 100 fics on AO3 (look at the numbers of Lito/Hernando) That’s what hurts the most.
And, lol - “Don’t attack me, this is just my racist opinion” - has become a tired cliche at this point.
If you use any variation of “unnatural” to justify your mysterious dislike for an IR pairing, you are Racist with a capital R. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200. That hits as hard as any slur, I don’t care if you mean their banter seems off or whatever the fuck. Words like “natural” in the context of putting down an IR couple are inflammatory. This confessor damn well knows it, with their innocent little “don’t attack my opinion” play at the end.
And the most frustrating thing is, people have been using the exact same language against ships with color for years and have been called out over it for years, yet they still do it – and will continue to do it. They’ll continue to act all wide-eyed and victimized, like they never even noticed that this character isn’t white and words have meaning.
Aanyway. If you haven’t been following Mod P’s posts about Magnus Bane and the Shadowhunters fandom over on nerdsagainstfandomracism, you’re missing out.
Lol also they have loads of chemistry??? Like sorry but i wont watch this garbage show but anyone who has ever seen like two gifsets of these two should be able to see that plainly???
