After a brief hiatus, the local rugby calendar will roll again this afternoon, with two exciting pre-season games at the National Park rugby field, starting at 16:00h.

The 10-a-side, warm-up matches will involve players from all the top rugby clubs in Guyana.

In the opening match, a female encounter, the Kiskadees, a team comprising players from the Guyana Defence Force and the Pepsi Hornets, will lock horns with the Blue Sakies, which is a combined Yamaha Caribs and Police unit.

The coaches for this encounter are Elwin Chase and Laurence Adonis, while the referee is Carlton Heywood.

Game two, which is set for a 16:30h scrum-off, will feature two powerful Men’s teams. Players from Police, the Guyana Defence Force and Yamaha Caribs will form one team to face a combined unit featuring players from the University of Guyana Wolves and the Pepsi Hornets.

Kenneth Grant-Stuart and Clinton Clarke will perform coaching duties, while Conrad Arjoon will be the referee. The supporting officials will be John Lewis, Philip Browne and Abiola Blair

Also upcoming on the Guyana Rugby Football Union’s programme for 2015 is the Banks Sevens tournament and the Annual General Meeting and election of office-bearers.(aramzan@guyanatimesgy.com)
