With all the concerns that generated government surveillance, and it has become common practice for many companies to track our browsing data to show advertising, more and more people are seeking ways to protect your privacy when using the web.

If you are using browsers like Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Safari is difficult, very, very difficult, surf the web and stay anonymous. Even if you are using Firefox, which is the only major browser that does not track your browsing habits, some companies will continue to do if you go to websites that are connected with these practices, as anything from Google, or Microsoft, or Facebook, etc.

The Tor network is still to date, one of the surest ways to surf the web anonymously. It is not or not you have something to hide, it comes to preserving your privacy at all costs, and leave it for granted. We all have information that we do not want to share with strangers, business sniff everything we do just for bombarding advertising, and sell us something. Social Networking convince you to share photos of your cat and your children then become property, to sell along with the rest of your data and become very rich.

What does Tor?

we  have spoken several times of Tor, a network and software tools that help us to use the Internet anonymously. Tor hides the source and destination of all traffic you generate, so that prevents anyone to know who you are, what you like, and what a view. By hiding the destination of your traffic also helps you bypass censorship and access blocked in your area for some reason sites.

Tor is a very robust and stable system, costs nothing, and has proven to be safe for many years. If you want to know in detail how Tor works, I recommend watching this video.

How to use Tor Browser?

Tor is not difficult to use, anyone can. No need to be an expert, or an advanced user. Tor is available to everyone. The easiest way to use Tor, is downloading the Tor Browser Bundle, this includes the need to run from your computer with Windows, Linux, or Mac, a special browser (almost equal to Firefox) injected with the power of the Tor network hide all traffic passing through it.

If you want to use Tor on a mobile device, you can do so thanks to Android Orbot. This application lets you access the web, use instant messaging and email without being monitored or blocked by your ISP. Orbot offers all the features and functionality of Tor to Android. Orbot provides a local proxy inside the Tor network, and if you bestow superuser, has the ability to encrypt all TCP traffic on your Android device.

If you want to use Tor for more than just surfing the web, you can go one step further and use Tails, a Linux distribution based on Debian running from a Live CD or USB so it is portable, and is made to leave no traces on any computer. Fact is, what used to evade Edward Snow den NSA surveillance.

It is important to know that although Tor hides all your traffic, you need to change some of your browsing habits if you do not want to be identified. For example, if you log into your Gmail or Facebook accounts with Tor, then these companies can track you and of course know who you are.
