Student-Athletes Set Records For Classroom Achievement

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University’s student-athletes set some records in the classroom for the recently-completed first semester.

For the first time since student-athlete grade-point-average compilation began during the 1996-97 school year all teams posted a GPA of 3.0 or better. In addition, 15 student-athletes achieved a 4.0 GPA to set a single-semester record.

As a department, Gonzaga’s 14 teams combined for a 3.26 GPA with 65 student-athletes named to the President’s List with a GPA of 3.7-4.0 and 45 student-athletes named to the Dean’s List with a GPA of 3.0-3.69.

Women’s tennis posted the highest GPA at 3.58 with women’s cross country at 3.50 and women’s crew at 3.44.

Women’s crew had 20 student-athletes named to the President’s List while women’s cross country had 14. Women’s crew also led the way with eight on the Dean’s List followed by women’s cross country with seven.

“These numbers are more than impressive,” Gonzaga athletic director Mike Roth said. “For all of our teams to be able to juggle the time commitment of academics and athletics at this high of a level is remarkable and is an outstanding accomplishment. Everyone involved – coaches, support staff and most of all the student-athletes – should take great pride in what is taking place in both the classroom and in the competitive arena.”
