Hello all. At age 15 I got my first car - a '69 Dodge Coronet. Could only drive it up and down our block-long street, as I didn't yet have my license. Unfortunately, before I could get out on the road with that cool, big 'ol car, it was turned over to my older sister and her husband, as they were in dire straits and needed a vehicle. I ended up with a Ford Pinto wagon! Ugh!
Years later, when working and could afford to buy my own car, I bought a '76 Dodge Sport Fury. It was red, with white vinyl top and a 360. I was styling!
Then came marriage, raising a family, and some nice but more practical cars. I missed my Coronet! My old man has a '66 Mustang, which over time has been nicely rebuilt and is currently equipped with a 347 stroker and T5. It's nice, but I've always favored BIG cars.
We go to car shows and swap meets all the time, and my husband was always pointing out vintage Mopars and other larger cars, to see if I had interest in anything in particular. Then he showed me some 60's GTO's and they really caught my eye.
We did some shopping and made a deal on a pretty complete and running '67 LeMans. Definitely a project car, but it's low mileage, pretty solid, and all-original, save for a 400, and some GTO pieces, such as hood, badges, console, etc. Car needs LOTS of TLC though, and we're preparing to pull the drivetrain and begin rust repair and preparation for paint.
I told my husband right from the start that I am determined to do as much work on the car myself as possible. He has been very good at pointing me the way and providing assistance. I'm no stranger to the shop, and know my way around tools, as my father always had me working with him out in the garage when I was young. More to follow as progress continues. Wish us luck!
