Customs and Border Protection and the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office got good news and bad news from the DHS Office of Inspector General in a January report on their efforts to implement radiation detection gear at U.S. ports.

The OIG said while CBP and DNDO have met statutory requirements to deploy and use Radiation Portal Monitors (RPMs) at the busiest U.S. seaports, the two don’t fully coordinate or centrally manage the radiation portal program to maximize their effectiveness.
