Many thanks to all the competitors and to the judges who gave up their time to make the first edition of Vejer Focus such a great success. Paul Debois flew over from London especially for the event, Jose Aniés contributed 100% with the organisation and will be running photography courses at the Califa through the winter (more info here). Kelly Lawlor helped with the judging but was forced to retire when it was clear her own family had been nominated by Tim Booth an independent judge sitting at home in Dorset (UK). Tim took the first ever pictures of the Califa at its inauguration and his portrait of a Northwest Frontier tribesman in Afghanistan still resides in the Sala del Califa. Tim is currently publishing a book on his ‘Hands’ project.
We look forward to having another Vejer Focus photo festival at the end of September 2014. Next year we will hopefully get more sunny shots but last weekend’s rain made all the photographers think a bit more about how to take a great picture! To see the exhibition more than 200 pics have been printed and can be seen at the Califa Gallery until Sunday the 6th.

Muchas gracias a todos los participantes y a los jueces que dieron su tiempo para hacer la primera edición de Vejer Focus un gran éxito. Paul Debois voló desde Londres especialmente para el evento, José Aniés aportó 100% a la organización y este invierno dará cursos de fotografía en el Califa. (más información aquí). Kelly Lawlor formó parte del jurado la pero se vio obligada a retirarse cuando estaba claro que sus hijos habían sido propuestos como premiados por Tim Booth un juez independiente que estaba siguiendo el concurso desde su casa en Inglaterra. En su día Tim tomó las primeras imágenes del Califa y su retrato de un Mujahadeen Afghaní todavía reside en la Sala del Califa. Tim está publicando un libro sobre su proyecto de ‘Hands’.
Esperamos tener otro festival Vejer Focus a finales de septiembre de 2014. El próximo año esperamos obtener más fotos soleadas! Para ver la exposición de más de 200 fotografías impresas y se puede visitar la Galería de la Casa del Califa hasta el domingo día 6.
