Sprinters often get overlooked but there are some cracking hounds currently in training, none more so that Ballymac Big Mike whose Irish Open Sprint heat win was his 21st in 24 races and his 11th in a row. Mention too for Coris Share who must be the top female sprinter in Ireland and whose flying win at Thurles was her fifth in a row and another FOY.
Mullingar, Newbridge and Thurles been running particularly well. Mullingar has seen fastest times of the year over the two main distances: 400 (Iceroad Hi Way) and 525 (Mulla Magic). Newbridge’s FOYs went to Holycross Leah (550) and Rapa Jazzer (575). Thurles has had three fastest time. In addition to Coris Share, Gerpats Delta was quickest over the 600 yard course while the strapping 68lb Diegos Ruby clocked the fastest 525 in the semis of the Tipperary Cup.
Avaune Rosie is Youghal’s fastest 550 runner this year and while Galway don’t stage many 810 yard races, Pension Power’s 45.98 was the best in the last five years.
