SEMPO, the search marketing industry's professional organization, is currently conducting its annual "State of Search" survey, open until November 15.

Now in its ninth year, the survey asks in-house, agency, and consultant professionals in digital marketing to weigh in on the current climate of web marketing. Participation guarantees a copy of the complete report – normally a members-only perk or for purchase at $695 – plus a chance to win an iPad 3.

The SEMPO State of Search reports offer a thorough look (upwards of 100 pages) at where search marketing is today. The survey will cover usual areas like budgets for digital marketing, common objectives and metrics within programs, types of services being offered and so on.

But this year, SEMPO added new areas for examination, such as Google's Hummingbird algorithm, secure search and mobile and email-related issues that matter to marketing practitioners and site owners today.

Last year's research forecast 2013 budgets for search marketing to grow to $23 billion by the close of this year. It will be interesting to see how that estimate panned out when SEMPO's latest report hits.

SEMPO research has long since been relied upon to gauge the state of affairs for the digital marketing industry. Just recently, it released research in partnership with ClickZ that examined the current salaries of search marketing professionals (stats showed the average salary decreased from $75,543 to $68,600).

Without your input, these reports wouldn't exist, so if you're willing to take a moment to offer feedback for SEMPO's State of Search report, you can do that here.
