Greenwich’s Bruce Museum will host the Superbia Soirée, a lively after-hours event open to the public, on Friday, July 17 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
The event will offer special evening access to the Museum’s newest exhibition, The Seven Deadly Sins: Pride, as well as a variety of activities to celebrate the show including a grown-up scavenger hunt and a special curator’s tour that includes an opportunity to hear from some of the artists featured in the exhibition.
“This exhibition is designed to explore Pride, one of the The Seven Deadly Sins, but it is also our hope that it will inspire a lively discussion,” says Tara Contractor, the Museuem’s Samuel H. Kress Fellow and the organizer of the event. “We felt that a fun evening event was in order.”
In addition to the scavenger hunt, curator’s tour and artist talks, the Superbia Soirée will offer workshops, games, wine and music celebrating the exhibition. Visitors will have the chance to win door prizes, and to make a peacock-feather fascinator. What’s a fascinator? Think Kate Middleton, or Carrie Bradshaw, both of whom have made fascinators de rigueur. A style of formal millinery that is popular among British women and can be seen in abundance at royal events, fascinators are usually worn to the side or the front of the forehead, and often include feathers. Peacock feathers of all types are, in fact, encouraged at the Superbia Soirée: “Strut your stuff in a peacock-inspired costume to win extra drink or raffle tickets!” says Ms. Contractor.
Admission to the Superbia Soirée is $15 for Museum members and $20 for non-members. Admission price includes two glasses of wine. Advance reservations are recommended, simply go to superbia.eventbrite.com.
