Sarah “Sally” Stark Oldham

Ms. Oldham was named to the list not only because she holds the highest ranking of professional excellence from Martindale-Hubbell but also because of the leadership she has demonstrated in her dedicated field of family law throughout her 25 plus-year career.

Ms. Oldham, a Rowayton resident, is a partner at Rutkin, Oldham & Griffin and represents clients in the negotiation and litigation of sophisticated, complex and high-asset family law matters. Her practice includes all areas of family law, including divorce, alimony, child support, property and asset division, child custody and post-judgment modifications and contempt. In addition, Ms. Oldham has extensive experience resolving challenging and emotionally charged relocation disputes. Her seminal advocacy in the case of Ireland v. Ireland redefined the rights of parents and children in relocation disputes.

Ms. Oldham is admitted to practice in Connecticut and the U.S. District Court, in the District of Connecticut. She is a Fellow in both the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Fairfield County Bar Association and the Connecticut Bar Association, where she serves on the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section, a position she has held since 1993.

Ms. Oldham has been selected for inclusion in “Best Lawyers in America” in the area of family law since 2006, “New York Area’s Best Lawyers” since 2007, and was identified as a “New England Best Lawyer” by The Wall Street Journal in 2015. She has been recognized as a “Connecticut Super Lawyer” in the area of family law since 2006, and has also frequently been included in the “Top 25 Women Connecticut Super Lawyers” list published by Connecticut Magazine since 2006. In addition, Ms. Oldham has been named to the list of “Ten Leaders in Matrimonial & Divorce Law in Connecticut” published by the Ten Leaders Cooperative since 2008, and was selected as “2015 Family Lawyer of the Year in Westport” by Family Law Experts. She is a regular speaker on family law matters as well as a prolific author. Ms. Oldham is co-author of “Connecticut Family Law and Practice,” a three-volume series published by West Publishing that is widely used by lawyers and judges throughout Connecticut.

She received her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Connecticut in 1988. Before and during law school, Ms. Oldham practiced as a school psychologist for 11 years after obtaining three degrees in psychology. She received a B.A., cum laude, from Wesleyan University in 1972 and a M.S. and 6th Year Degree from Southern Connecticut State College in 1974 and 1975, respectively. Ms. Oldham’s psychology experience brings a level of insight and awareness to her work as a family lawyer that is unique among her peers.
