Fusion, an accredited private school providing one-to-one classrooms for kids from grades 6-12, will open its first campus in Greenwich on Sept. 8. This non-traditional school model allows complete customization for each student, wherever they are in their educational path, and creates a real emotional connection. Course material is presented at the student’s pace and delivered in a way that best supports their interests, strengths and challenges.

Fusion was founded in 1989 in San Diego (Calif.) out of frustration with typical school district status quo. With a passionate belief in the power of positive relationships, a one-to-one approach to teaching proved to unlock academic potential, while opening opportunities for emotional and social growth. The decision to open in Greenwich was based on research that indicated there was a strong need in the area for a one-to-one educational option.

“Fusion’s one-to-one instructional model allows each child’s educational program to be highly customized and personalized based on his or her individual needs. Our lessons are delivered in a way that is extremely engaging for our students, because our teachers are able to focus on how each student learns best,” said Jennifer Walsh-Rurak, Ed.D. Head of School at Fusion Academy Greenwich. “At Fusion, we promote comprehensive growth for our students by balancing academic success and achievement with social and emotional development.”

Fusion Academy Greenwich campus, located at 66 Gatehouse Rd. in Stamford, will be the first Fusion Academy in Connecticut and ninth in the Tri-State area, joining schools in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Westchester, Princeton and Englewood, among others. The unique one-to-one private school is experiencing rapid growth with more than 30 campuses having opened or to be opened soon in California, Connecticut, Illinois (Chicago), New Jersey and New York.

Led by Dr. Walsh-Rurak, an educator with experience in school administration and education-based research, Fusion offers flexible scheduling to meet the growing demands students face outside of school. At Fusion, homework is completed in the Homework Café® on campus and students must be signed out by their lead teacher before leaving for the day. This policy enables students to spend quality time with family and friends, while simultaneously making sure they receive the instructional support they require to complete assignments.

Classes are offered year round so students can begin studying at any time during the calendar year, including enrolling for a full schedule of courses over the summer. Students seeking to make up a course, get ahead, or simply have some fun may take standard academic courses for credit or sample the Fusion program by taking the Fusion Intensive. The Fusion Intensive allows students a semester for credit plus a sampling of art/music, Leadership Skills, and Study Skills for a special introductory price.
