The Coil Group, mobile application developers based in Rochester, Michigan were selected this year to develop the free mobile app that supports and connects educators, parents and all advocates of green learning environments, leading up to the 2013 Center for Green Schools annual Green Apple Day of Service,Saturday September 28.

A quarter of all Americans walk through the doors of a school every day. Yet instead of walking into places of opportunity, millions enter buildings where the air they breathe is filled with toxins and mold, where classrooms are poorly lit and overcrowded, and where resources are limited and outdated. The Green Apple Day of Service, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, gives parents, teachers, students, companies and local organizations the opportunity to transform all schools into healthy, safe and productive learning environments through local service projects. The Coil Group developed the Free Green Apple app for iPhone and iPad which allows users to share a photo easily with friends and family and through social media, to showcase important places where you learn. Use the featured stencils to highlight aspects of schools you like, and things you wish would be changed. Use the tagline “where we learn matters” to demonstrate your commitment to healthy, high-performing schools. “It is not very often than an opportunity arises to actually foster positive change in the world through a mobile device application”, says Coil Group Founder Jim Brown, “This project was very exciting and gratifying to us for that reason, and we hope it creates great new conversations and connections along with healthier learning environments for everyone.”
