Archery Demo  4:30-6pm

Braden Field #2. Youth and adult archery classes are quickly becoming a very popular Greenbelt Recreation Department activity. Bring the family and join us as our certified National Archery Association instructors provide guidance on proper alignment form and shooting technique. Participants will also have the opportunity to register for upcoming youth and adult archery classes.  Sponsored by the Greenbelt Recreation Department

Midway. Rides by Rosedale Amusements. Games, food sale and information booths organized by Greenbelt organizations. Booths constructed and wired by Greenbelt Public Works Department. Ride tickets sold by volunteers from the Eleanor Roosevelt High School National Honor Society. No charge for entertainment, shows or events unless noted.



John Henry Jones, our Outstanding Citizen for 2012

Opening Ceremonies  6:30-7:15pm

Stage. Introduction of dignitaries. Presentation of Outstanding Citizen Award, the major civic event in Greenbelt each year, honoring all the outstanding citizens who make Greenbelt great. Sign language interpreter on stage.

- ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore by John Ford.  (A guest production by The Rude Mechanicals) In this deliciously twisted offering by the Rude Mechanicals, John Ford’s controversial tale of incest, obsession, revenge, blighted religion, and social amorality is given a touch of Tarantino, set in 1947 Italy among its most prominent Mafioso families. It could be Romeo and Juliet, through a glass, darkly, if the star-crossed lovers were … keeping it in the family.  8:00 pm  Ticket prices: $17 General Admission, $14 Students/Seniors/Military, $12 Child (12 and under with adult). Children’s Pet Show  9:30-10:30am

Community Center Lawn. All kinds, types, sizes of pets. Bring your pet to register at 9:30am. Judging at 10am. Awards at 10:30am. Greenbelt’s greatest pets get some well-deserved attention. Rain or Shine! Sponsored by Girl Scout Troop #2799 of Greenbelt

Strategy Games 10am-2pm

Youth Center Game Room. Demonstration and instruction on playing strategy games by Greenbelt Strategy Games Club. Over a dozen games will be on hand.  Sponsored by the Greenbelt Recreation Department

Family Bee Yoga Fushion Demo  10:30-11am

Youth Center Multipurpose Room. Gretchen Schock of Bee Yoga Fusion will share ways in which parents and children can use simple and fun exercises to build strength and flexibility and enhance balance, using props that you already have in your home. Learn yoga poses, spend time as a family, and leave the workshop with the tools you need to live a healthier lifestyle. Sponsored by the Greenbelt Recreation Department

Center Ring Circus School Performance  11-11:40am

Stage. Celebration of Gregory May’s circus school.

Greenbelt  Museum Walking Tours 11am-1pm

10-B Crescent Rd. Join the Greenbelt Museum for a history-filled walking tour. Tours will leave at 11am and 1pm from the museum’s historic house at 10-B Crescent Road. The Greenbelt Museum’s historic home has been restored and furnished with objects from the period 1937–1952. See how Greenbelt’s families lived in the 1930s and 1940s. Walking tours are free, but space is limited.

The Bruce Swaim Quartet  12:30-2pm

Stage. One of Washington DC’s premier jazz quartets performs jazz standards as well as original compositions.

Youth Center Gymnasium. Grab your skates and save the date! Join family and friends to participate in a storied Greenbelt tradition. Roller skates are provided FREE of charge… or bring your own. Skate tunes provided by DJ Keither Gooding. Cosponsored by the Greenbelt Recreation Department and Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.

Mary Shaver Band  2:30-4:30pm

Stage. Performing sweet soul, blues and rock ‘n’ roll, the Mary Shaver Band features high-energy vocals, gutsy guitar riffs, and soulful drumming.

Jackie Scott and the House Wreckers  5-7pm

Stage. Jackie Scott and the House Wreckers are a hot combination of blues and r&b packed with soul.

Memorial Gathering 4pm & 6pm

Grassy area behind Mother and Child statue. Come to honor those friends and relatives who have passed before us. There will be a motorcycle ride at 4pm, followed by a memorial gathering at 6pm. Please feel free to bring flowers to lay on the hill during the memorial service.

Midnight Movers  8-11pm

Stage. The Midnight Movers are a powerhouse of authentic soul and Motown sounds, led by the dynamic trumpeter and vocalist Curtis Pope.

At the New Deal Cafe:

- Jazz Jam w/Greg Meyer – bring on your jazz groove and join in this community jam session!! (1 to 5pm)

Youth Center Gym. Age groups 12 & under, 13-15, 16 and over.

Registration at 2pm; tournament begins at 2:30pm. Participants ages 12 & under have two minutes to make ten shots. Ages 13-15/ 16 & over will have three minutes to make fifteen shots. Trophies will be awarded to the winner and runner-up for each age group.

Retro Town Fair 3-5pm

Roosevelt Center. The Greenbelt Museum is organizing a Retro Town Fair much like those the earliest Greenbelters enjoyed starting back in 1939. Ribbons will be awarded for the best entries in a number of categories, including Flowers, Vegetables, Baked Goods, Canned Goods and Needlework. Entries accepted 11am-1pm. 2013 Larry Noel 15K Race and 3K Fun Run 5pm and 5:10pm

The DC Road Runners Club is conducting its annual Larry Noël Greenbelt 15K Race and 3K Fun Run. As in past years, the race will start on Northway at 5pm, and the Fun Run will start near the Youth Center at 5:10pm. Complete information and online registration here.  Sponsored by DC Road Runners

CPR Band

CPR Band 8-11pm

Stage. Playing a mix of rock and soul, CPR Band has been packing dance floors in the Washington/Baltimore area for 20 years.

59th Annual Greenbelt Labor Day Parade 10am-Noon

The 59th Annual Labor Day Parade will entertain you with a variety of groups, demonstrate our community spirit and accentuate our diverse cultural backgrounds. There will be bands, fire trucks, color guard, community organizations, Circus Artist Greg May with his Center Ring Circus School and Greenbelt Youth Circus, the Miss Greenbelt participants, and more. The Grand Marshall is Greenbelt’s Outstanding Citizen. Parade Route: Down Crescent Road from Greenhill to Centerway. Parade is marshaled by the Prince George’s County Emergency Radio Association (PGCERA) with assistance from Prince George’s County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (PG-ARES) and the Eleanor Roosevelt High School National Honor Society.

Greenbelt Community Church, Corner of Hillside and Crescent Rd. After parade. Barbeque sandwich or hot dog, baked beans, slaw, chips, drink and dessert for one reasonable price.

Craft Fair Noon-6pm

Youth Scavenger Hunt (Teams of Two) 1-3pm

Youth Center Front Lobby. Can you find them all? Team up with a friend and see if you can find all Greenbelt has to offer. Ages 15 and under. Registration begins at 12:45pm in front of the Youth Center Entrance. Prizes will be awarded to the top two winners. Sponsored by the Greenbelt Recreation Department
