The 8th Limassol International Marathon, will be held on March 16, with over 6,000 participants. The Limassol Marathon is Cyprus’ official Marathon, authorized by world federations AIMS and IAAF. It comprises a straight 42 km course along the city’s coastal front, from the city center to the Amathus archaeological site and back.

The organizers invited people to participate in the events of the Marathon, which is one of the most important sports events in Cyprus.

Vasilis Vavalos, the Marathon’s technical director reported to CNA  that their main goal is to attract tourists and promote sports, adding that in this year’s Marathon there will be athletes from various countries, such as the United Kingdom, Russia, the US, China, Japan and the Arab Emirates.

Vavalos stated that Cyprus had collaborated with the United Kingdom for the Marathon’s promotion abroad, while contacts were made with Romania and its neighboring countries and tour operators in Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia, France, Italy and Scandinavian countries.

Vavalos claimed that safety during the Marathon is one of the organizers’ main concerns. Therefore, they will be cooperating with the Police, the Civil Defense, the Greek Armed Forces in Cyprus, the National Guard, and the Volunteer Doctors.

The events will include the full Marathon, the Half Marathon, the 10km Health Race, the 5km City Race, the 5km Corporate Race, and the 1km Student Race. It is expected that participants will exceed 6,000.
