Stefanie Taylor, Long Island chapter coordinator of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC), will be the featured speaker at the June 15 breakfast meeting of the Rotary Club of Great Neck. The meeting will be held at 8 a.m. in the boardroom of TD Bank, 2 Great Neck Rd. in Great Neck.
“As the Long Island chapter coordinator of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, my role is to be an ambassador of the organization and grow our presence in the community,”
said Taylor. “For the last 10 years, the chapter has been volunteer driven by a remarkable group of survivors and individuals whose lives have been impacted by this devastating disease. My role is to honor the foundation that they have established and continue to evolve to advance the mission and goals of the NOCC as a national organization.”
Founded in 1995, NOCC is the first and only national ovarian cancer organization with a network of chapters throughout the country. The group’s mission is to save lives by fighting to prevent and cure ovarian cancer, and to improve the quality of life for survivors. Local and national programs include promoting early detection through educational initiatives, branded publications and mass-media campaigns; allocating funds toward the Ovarian Cancer Research Dream Team through Stand Up to Cancer; supporting newly diagnosed women in more than 200 hospitals through its signature Faces of Hope tote bags, which provide vital information and resources; and empowerment to take action and join the fight to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer through run/walks nationwide.
“Ovarian cancer touches everyone in its path. It is more than a woman’s disease, it impacts spouses, children, parents, friends and colleagues,” said Taylor. “A full range of emotions touch everyone in ovarian cancer’s path—hope, denial, fear, anger, sadness. Many struggle with loneliness in the midst of the battle of their lives. The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition strives to make sure that no one who is faced with this disease feels that they are alone in their journey.”
The Rotary Club of Great Neck invites town residents and business people to visit one of its meetings for social and business networking and to participate in keeping Great Neck great and a wonderful place to live and work. The group’s dinner meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at local restaurants. All other weekly meeting are held at 8 a.m. at TD Bank.
