E. Approval of Paper Bid Mrs. Carter

Copy paper bid requests were sent to six paper vendors, and a bid summary of the responders is provided below. The administration recommends acceptance of the total low bid of $20,084.80 from XPEDX. The prior-year paper bid projected a need for 960 cartons of white copy paper (bid total $25,456.00). When possible, the district has utilized electronic transmission of documents in order to conserve copy paper usage, and the 2016-2017 bid for 840 cartons ($20,084.40) reflects that focus, with a savings of $5,371.20.

Office Products 8.5 x 11 840 cartons @ $25.50 $21,420.00

Additionally, quotes were requested for pastel and bright copy paper as well as card stock. Two companies responded. Purchases will be made.

7. CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION Mrs. Carter / Mr. Popp

A. Assessments Updates

State Assessments. USD 428 has completed all state assessments in all grade levels. Last year was a baseline year, so this year we should be able to start seeing some data. The district will not see the data, though, until September or October.

Scoring Multi-Disciplinary Performance Tasks. Teachers used part of the March Curriculum Day to grade MDPTs. This took much time, but teachers did get to see how students respond to these items.

AIMSweb Assessments. The district is winding down the end of the AIMSweb assessments K-8. These assessments have been a monumental shift, for our district now has data to show how students are progressing throughout the year. We are excited to review the data.

MAP Assessments. The high school completed another round of Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments. This is the first year with these, and we are just starting to get a wealth of information. The next step will be to get the teachers to see and use the data to enhance their instruction.

B. K-6 English Language Arts Pilot.

The K-6 ELA Curriculum Committee would like to pilot the McGraw Hill programs of Wonders and Open Court for their adoption for the 2017-2018 school year. This would be the same curriculum across the district. Wonders is a comprehensive ELA program, and Open Court is a K-3 ELA program with a much more explicit teaching program to follow. The administration recommends approval.

C. Math and English Language Arts Tier 2 Curriculum. With the assessments, it has become clear that some students need intervention. A system has been set to intervene for them, but we need better resources to help meet that intervention need. The 95% group for ELA and Number Worlds for Math are both one-time costs that will provide intervention strategies for use in every building. The cost is roughly $20,000 for each resource.
