Week Eleven features 11 rivalry games including one of the most famous and oldest continuously played rivalries in the country and a matchup between crosstown rivals that are ranked #1/#2 in their state and both nationally ranked. There are four teams this week carrying unbeaten records into the game and, we will again be providing TWO LIVE internet video broadcasts and ONE LIVE internet audio broadcast as part of the Great American Rivalry Series Broadcast Network.
Our staff will once again be working both sides of the country as we feature games in 10 states including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California, Arizona, Ohio, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Florida and New York.
For the last seven weeks we have carried a poll on our site for the rivals to partner up, gather their fans and join together to be the Voter’s Game of the Week. Last week we had a battle between one of America’s oldest rivalry games and perhaps the newest one in the country. As with typical rivalry games, the vote counts were neck and neck all week, but, ultimately, the historic Male vs. Manual game in Louisville became last week’s VOTER’s CHOICE Game of the Week. So far this season the Great American Rivalry has featured 78 games in 37 states and has passed out hundreds of Champions Hats, dozens of t-shirts and presented Scholar Athlete Awards, Hall of Fame Awards and MVP Awards to dozens of talented athletes.
LIVE VIDEO BROADCAST – Penn Hills (PA) vs. Woodland Hills (PA) – Oct. 30, 2015
The Great American Rivalry Series is proud to announce that it will feature a well known Pittsburgh rivalry game between the Penn Hills Indians and the unbeaten Woodland Hills Wolverines on Friday, October 30 in the Series’ eleventh weekend of games for 2015. This game will be presented by the United States Marine Corps and will be played at Penn Hill’s Yuhas-McGinley Stadium. It will also be a LIVE BROADCAST on the Great American Rivalry Series Broadcast Network. (CLICK HERE FOR BROADCAST) The Indians and Wolverines have been playing each other annually since 1987 and sit at a 14-14 record in games. Penn Hills won in 2014 with a 22-15 victory. In 2015, Woodland Hills is one of the few remaining undefeated AAAA teams in Pennsylvania and are currently ranked #1 in the state.
LIVE VIDEO BROADCAST – Canton McKinley (OH) vs. Massillon Washington – Oct. 31, 2015
The Great American Rivalry Series is proud to announce that it will once again feature what USA Today called “America’s most famous high school rivalry” as the Canton McKinley Bulldogs host the Massillon Washington Tigers on Saturday, October 31 in the Series’ eleventh weekend of games for 2015. This game will be presented by the United States Marine Corps and will be played at Fawcett Stadium in Canton. The game will also be BROADCAST LIVE on the Rivalry Series Broadcast Network (CLICK HERE FOR BROADCAST). The 2015 contest will be the 126th meeting of the Tigers and Bulldogs in this famed rivalry. Overall the Tigers lead the series 68-52-5. Over the years Massillon has won 24 State Championships and claimed 9 national championships while McKinley has 12 State Championships and 2 national championships. Massillon has the third highest number of wins of all high schools with 853 and McKinley comes in eighth with 812. The series draws nearly 19,000 fans each year though in 2001 29,500 came to see the two teams battled it out in the Division 1 Region Semifinal, their second meeting of the season. The Tigers are coming into the 2015 game with a 4 win streak after downing the Bulldogs 31-21 in 2014.
Edison (CA) vs. Fountain Valley (CA) – Oct. 30, 2015
The Great American Rivalry Series is proud to announce it will feature the “Battle for the Bell” between the Edison Chargers and the Fountain Valley Barons in the Series’ eleventh weekend of games for 2015. This 46 year rivalry game will be presented by the United States Army and Muscle Milk and will be played on Friday, October 30 at Huntington Beach Stadium. This year marks the 46th meeting of between these rival teams. The Battle for the Bell began in 1975 as student activity coordinators from both schools worked together and purchased “The Bell” from an antique store in Mission Viejo. The one and only tie in Bell Game history was on October 4, 1974, with a final score of 0-0. Fountain Valley missed two field goals, the last one coming in with no time left in the game, and Edison had a 66-yard touchdown nullified by a penalty. Edison was the first winner of The Bell that year, defeating the Barons 19-6. The Bell has kept its place at Edison since 2005 as Fountain Valley’s last win was in 2004 with a 21-20 victory. Edison currently leads the series 30-14-1 after winning the 2014 game over Fountain Valley 33-15, their 10th in a row.
HSFB100 #13 Chandler (AZ) vs. HSFB100 #28 Hamilton (AZ) – Oct. 30, 2015
The Great American Rivalry Series is proud to announce it will feature “The Battle for Arizona Avenue” as the state’s #1 and #2 teams, both nationally ranked powerhouses, will meet in their annual slugfest. The game between the Chandler Wolves and the Hamilton Huskies in the Series’ eleventh weekend of games for 2015 will be presented by the United States Army and Muscle Milk and will be played on Friday, October 30 at Chandler High School.
The two schools are only 4 miles apart and down the road from each other on Arizona Avenue. Chandler High has been around for many years, but Hamilton didn’t get its start until 1998. Since then the two schools have consistently been among the top three teams in Arizona. Chandler went 17 years without being able to down the Huskies, but finally pulled it off in 2013 and then again twice in 2014 with a huge 56-24 win at Hamilton (Hamilton’s first home loss in years) and then again with a 28-7 victory in the 2014 state championship game, their first since 1949. The two teams combined will feature 14 D-1 recruits in this matchup of national powerhouses.
Troy (OH) vs. Piqua (OH) – Oct. 30, 2015
The Great American Rivalry Series is proud to announce that it will feature the historic “Battle on the Miami” rivalry game between the Troy Trojans and the Piqua Indians on Friday, October 30 in the Series’ eleventh weekend of games for 2015. This game will be presented by the United States Marine Corps and will be played at Troy Memorial Stadium. This rivalry dates back to 1899 and sits at a dead even 62-62-6 record. This has traditionally been one of those historic rivalry games where the records don’t matter. They will meet for the 131st time in the season finale for both teams as neither have qualified for the playoffs this year after Piqua had a disappointing loss to Sidney last week to drop them out of contention. But, they will battle for another year of bragging rights and this will be their “championship game” as they go after the 2015 Great American Rivalry Championship trophy. Piqua took it home in 2014 with a 41-10 win.
Daniel Boone (TN) vs. David Crockett (TN) – Oct. 30, 2015
The Great American Rivalry Series is proud to announce that it will feature “The Musket Bowl” rivalry game between the Daniel Boone Trailblazers and the David Crockett Pioneers on Friday, October 30 in the Series’ eleventh weekend of games for 2015. This game will be presented by the United States Marine Corps and will be played at Daniel Boone High School. The Musket Bowl was first played in 1971 when the two new consolidated high schools opened their doors. That first year David Crockett High won 72-0. Since then Daniel Boone has held the edge with a 32-12 record and was the winner of the 2014 contest 23-16. The Pioneers last won in 2002. This season the Pioneers come to the game with a 5-4 record while the Trailblazers are coming off their first win in 2015 after downing Cocke County last weekend. The winner of the game will take home the “Musket” for the trophy case, along with the Rivalry Series Championship Trophy and bragging rights for the year.
Lowndes (GA) vs. Valdosta (GA) – Oct. 30, 2015
The Great American Rivalry Series is proud to announce that it will feature the famed “Winnersville Classic” rivalry game between the Lowndes Vikings and the Valdosta Wildcats on Friday, October 30 in the Series’ eleventh weekend of games for 2015. This game will be presented by the United States Marine Corps and will be played at Lowndes High’s Martin Stadium. The Valdosta-Lowndes football series began in 1968, after the Lowndes County school system consolidated into one high school. Valdosta, which had a 55-year head start on its football program, dominated the early part of the series. It won the first nine games, allowing Lowndes just 26 points in those games. In 1981 the rivalry took on a new identity with the name “Winnersville Classic.” The Valdosta High School Wildcats have one of the most successful high school football programs in the country with 867 wins, six national championships, 24 Georgia state championships between 1920 and 1998, and 41 region titles. Cross-town rival Lowndes has also built a strong program, winning five state titles since 1980. Valdosta leads the overall series 34-16 and 19-12 since 1981 when the annual match was named the Winnersville Classic. The Wildcats 13-10 in their 2014 meeting.
W.S. Neal (AL) vs. T.R. Miller (AL) – Oct. 30, 2015
The Great American Rivalry Series is proud to announce that it will feature the historic “Battle of Murder Creek” rivalry game between the W.S. Neal Eagles and the T.R. Miller Tigers on Friday, October 30 in the Series’ eleventh weekend of games for 2015. This game, in its 73rd year, will be presented by the United States Marine Corps and will be played at W.S. Neal’s Buddy Taylor Field. This rivalry got its start in 1942 between two schools that sit only two miles apart and are separated by Murder Creek, which was named for a skirmish between Creek Indians and settlers in the early 1800s. The two will get on the field in their 73rd meeting with Miller leading the series 51-21. Miller has six state titles to their name and are unbeaten in region play in 2015 with 7-1 record overall. The Eagles have a 6-2 record. The Tigers won a close one in 2014 when they downed the Eagles 18-17.
Lakeland (FL) vs. Kathleen (FL) – Oct. 30, 2015
The Great American Rivalry Series is proud to announce that it will feature the rivalry game between the Lakeland Dreadnaughts and the Kathleen Red Devils on Friday, October 30 in the Series’ eleventh weekend of games for 2015. This game, in its 51st year, will be presented by the United States Marine Corps and will be played at Lakeland’s historic Thomas Bryant Stadium. Lakeland and Kathleen have been at their rivalry since 1964 and the Dreadnaughts lead the series 38-12. Lakeland has 6 state titles and two national titles under their belt. Prior to Lakeland’s 21-2 win in 2014, five of the previous ten matchups had been decided by a touchdown or less. This year Lakeland is fielding a 6-2 record while the Red Devils are undefeated at 9-0. Kathleen hopes to keep their record unblemished with a Rivalry Series victory.
Sachem North (NY) vs. Bay Shore (NY) – Oct. 31, 2015
The Great American Rivalry Series is proud to announce that it will feature a rivalry game between the Bay Shore Marauders and the Sachem North Flaming Arrows on Saturday, October 31 in the Series’ eleventh weekend of games for 2015. This game will be presented by the United States Marine Corps and will be played at Sachem North’s Fred Fusaro Alumni Stadium.
Just two years ago Bay Shore and Sachem North were meeting each other in the District Playoffs. This year they both head into their final game of the season with pride and bragging rights on the line. Bay Shore has a 2-5 record and Sachem North has a 1-6 record. But, a rivalry game means the records are thrown out the window. This one is for the bragging rights.
LIVE VIDEO BROADCAST – HSFB100 #84 Don Bosco (NJ) v.s Bergen Catholic (NJ) – Oct. 31, 2015
The Great American Rivalry Series is proud to announce that it will feature the famed New Jersey rivalry game between the Don Bosco Prep Ironmen and the Bergen Catholic Crusaders on Saturday, October 31 in the Series’ eleventh weekend of games for 2015. This game will be presented by the United States Marine Corps and will be played at Don Bosco’s Granatell Stadium. This game will also be broadcast live by Bergen Catholic as part of the Great American Rivalry Series Broadcast Network. This is considered to be the best rivalry in New Jersey and one of the biggest in the country. Both teams are national powerhouses. The two schools are located less than 10 miles apart. Don Bosco has won 14 New Jersey State Championships while the Crusaders of Bergen Catholic have 16 trophies in their case. Currently NJ.com has Bergen ranked #2 and Don Bosco #5. The NHFB100 poll had both ranked thorough last week, but this week only Don Bosco is at #84 while Bergen Catholic dropped out of the polls after winning a nail biter in the final seconds against their other big rivalry St. Joe’s last weekend. The Crusaders downed the Ironmen 10-3 in 2014. The Ironmen lead the series 35-28-2 as they prep for their 66th meeting.
