The 11th Annual Beach, Boogie & BBQ Festival returns Labor Day weekend to the Grand Strand on Sept. 2 and 3 at the Horry-Georgetown Technical College Conference Center at 950 Crabtree Lane, near Grand Park at The Market Common in Myrtle Beach. The festival is offering $8,500 in cash prizes to the winners of this official barbecue championship of South Carolina.

The end-of-summer extravaganza will take place from 6:00 pm to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, and from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday, Sept. 3.

Registered cooking teams will compete in the Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned barbecue competition on Saturday. New this year is a Backyard BBQ Competition, which allows amateur cookers and grillers to experience competing in a sanctioned barbecue event without all the rules and guidelines. Backyard BBQ competition registration is FREE and includes a 10×10 cook space and 20 amp electricity. The deadline for both team registrations is Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016.

The Beach, Boogie & BBQ Festival is a free, family-friendly fun thing to do in Myrtle Beach, featuring finger-lickin’ barbecue and food for purchase from vendors and competitors, along with free live entertainment both days.  In addition, there will be kids’ activities and games and vendors selling BBQ and other festival food. Parking is also free and available throughout the Market Common area and HGTC campus buildings along Pampas Avenue. There will be a handicap parking lot near the intersection of Pampas Avenue and Crabtree Lane, and spaces will be first come, first serve.

Attendees can sample delicious barbecue from competing teams on Saturday beginning at noon until 1:30 p.m. by purchasing $1 sample tickets while supplies last. The wing competition Friday at 6 p.m. allows attendees to purchase $1 sample tickets for wings. One ticket for one wing on Friday, and one ticket for one BBQ sample on Saturday. If barbecue doesn’t tempt your taste buds, other festival food will be available for purchase during the entire festival.
