Description

These one-hour online discussions for graduate students and postdoctors are led by faculty and staff from the 22 CIRTL Network universities. Sessions are open to all on a drop-in basis through a web browser or the Blackboard Collaborate mobile app (Go to: www.cirtl.net/events). Group viewings offer drinks, light snacks, handouts, and a chance to mingle starting 15 minutes before the session. Bring your lunch and join us any Wednesday.

September Theme: Effective and Inclusive Research Mentoring

Session Description: Create and sustain a lab or research group in which each individual feels safe and supported. We will discuss how to create a welcoming environment for groups typically underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields, while reflecting on our own identities and experiences and how they may be strengths or blind spots in our mentoring.

Presenter: Colleen McLinn, CU-CIRTL Program Director, Cornell University, and Melissa McDaniels, Michigan State University and National Research Mentoring Network
