Currently on display at Lawrence Alkin Gallery in London is artist Nick Smith’s solo show “Paramour.”
The show, dedicated to Shakespeare on the 400 year anniversary of his death, finds Smith employing his color chip “painting” method wherein he combines nudes with excerpts from the Bard’s sonnets and plays. However, unlike previous works, Smith’s process has evolved with the images being heavily dictated by the content and form of the chosen excerpt of poetry or prose. The meter of a Shakespeare sonnet will inform the size and shape of the image, with a 140-word poem resulting in an artwork made up of 140 color chips. The resulting imagery and words exploring lust, love and appreciation of the female form.
“Paramour” is on display until April 16th, 2016.
