(New York) Surfwear retailer Quiksilver Inc. filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy Wednesday with a plan to restructure the company and financing to keep operations going. That doesn’t mean, however, that it won’t be closing storefronts. The retailer has lined up liquidators Hilco Merchant Resources LLC and Gordon Brothers Retail Partners LLC to hold going-out-of-business sales at 27 locations that will continue through the end of the year. Quiksilver currently has 122 stores in the U.S., including 47 factory outlets.
Additionally, the company has already started selling-off excess inventory at 24 pop-up shops located outside current storefronts. According to court papers the company expects to open six more pop-up shops soon.
These plans still require the approval of a bankruptcy judge, and Quiksilver is heading to court Wednesday to ask for it.
