Daily Current Affairs – 30th August 2016

1) Padma Sachdev was awarded the prestigious Saraswati Samman for the year 2015.

She is first modern woman poet of Dogri language.She was felicitated by Delhi’s Lt Governor Najeeb Jung in New Delhi.

She was awarded for her autobiography ‘Chitt-Chete’ written in Dogri language.

She has also received the Padma Shri, the Indian fourth highest civilian award in 2001, and the Kabir Samman for poetry for the year 2007-2008, given by Government of Madhya Pradesh.

She has 60 books to her credit and recited poems in several regional languages, including Gujarati and Punjabi.

Saraswati award was instituted in 1991 by the K. K. Birla Foundation which carries a sum of 15 lakh rupees besides a citation and a plaque.

2) India has signed four aggrement with Myanmar to boost bilateral Cooperation.

It was signed after delegation level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting President of Myanmar U Htin Kyaw in New Delhi. President Kyaw was on a four day visit to India from 27 August to 30 August 2016.

The four agreements signed include:

a) MoU on cooperation in the construction of 69 Bridges including AP Aproach Roads in the Tamu-Kyigone-Kalewa Road Section of the Trilateral Highway in Myanmar.

b) MoU on cooperation in the construction / upgradation of the Kalewa – Yagyi Road Section.

c) MoU on cooperation in the Field of Renewable Energy.

d) MoU on cooperation in the field of Traditional Systems of Medicine.

3) National Sports Day was observed across India on 29 August 2016.

It is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of the legendary hockey player Dhyan Chand who was born on 29 August 1905.

On this day, President Pranab Mukherjee conferred National Sports and adventure awards on sports person at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi.

Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award was conferred on four sports person and they are PV Sindhu (Badminton), Dipa Karmakar (Gymnastics), Jitu Rai (Shooting) and Sakshi Malik (Wrestling).

Daronacharya award was conferred on six sports coaches and they are Nagapuri Ramesh (Athletics), Sagar Mal Dhayal (Boxing), Raj Kumar Sharma (Cricket), Bishweshwar Nandi (Gymnastics), S Pradeep Kumar (Swimming (Lifetime) and Mahabir Singh (Wrestling (Lifetime)

Dhyan chand award 2015 was conferred on three sports person and they are Athlete Satti Geetha, hockey player Sylvanus Dung Dung and Rower Rajendra Pralhad Shelke.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy was conferred on Punjabi University, Patiala.

4) Mukesh Mehta was appointed as the President of India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA).

He succeeds Mohit Kamboj, who resigned in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of IBJA on 24 August 2016.

Mehta is director of Mark Bangles and has already been on the board since the last four years. He has also served on various committee’s in the last four years. He is also a Director on the Board of IBJA.

5) India and the United States has signed Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA).

The agreement was signed in Pentagon during Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s visit to the US.

The logistics agreement will enable the forces of the two nations to use each other’s bases for repair and replenishment of supplies.

The joint drills of the two forces named Yudh Abhyas will take place in the mountain of the northern India on September 2016. It makes joint operations easier and more efficient.

6) DiGiSENSE has introduced by Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (M&M) to track vehicle information in real time.

DiGiSENSE by its digital-enabled sensing connects Mahindra range of pick up vehicles, tractors, trucks and construction equipment to the cloud. It will enable vehicle owners to have complete information on the location and usage their assets round-the-clock on their mobile phones.

It allows vehicle owner to monitor the performance and location of vehicles, including the quantity of fuel used by the vehicles on real time basis.

Mahindra has become the first OEM (original equipment manufacturer) in India to integrate its product line-up onto a cloud-based technology platform.

The key features include delivery tracking and route planning, vehicle utilisation reports, trip optimisation, alerts and machine hour operations and geo-fencing to prevent unauthorised use of the asset and theft.

7) India ranked 77th in the World Disaster Risk Index.

The world risk report 2016 has released by the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) and Bundnis Entwicklung Hilft.

The Index was prepared and calculated by the University of Stuttgart in Germany.

Vanuatu is the country with the highest risk of disaster among the 171 countries included in the World Risk Index 2016.

The hotspot regions for the risk of disaster are located in Oceania, South-East Asia, Central America and in Southern Sahel.

India ranks 77 on the World Risk Index, marginally better positioned than Pakistan which is placed at 72nd position.
